Motorsport racing has never really been a safe haven for drivers. Even the Cup Series is prone to cause injuries as has been proved time and again. However, one of the most underrated or lesser seriously taken injuries is that concerning hearing loss. With Tony Stewart now into drag racing, it looks like even he is suffering from a hearing problem, or at least, Dale Earnhardt Jr wants him to think so.
Without a doubt, Stewart‘s passion for racing is second to none. Earlier this year, he announced his participation in the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster. While it is an entirely new venture, the 51-year-old possesses the capabilities to find success in it. However, there are shortcomings involved too with drag racing which Dale Jr hilariously highlighted recently.

Earlier in February, Tony Stewart confirmed his participation in full-time racing with NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster. In fact, he has had an impressive start and he recently won in the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas. Certainly, no words can do justice to the sheer talent this man possesses.
Definitely, Stewart’s aging like fine wine but there are things he needs to be wary of. Drag Racing isn’t the same as NASCAR racing. In fact, it involves significantly higher speeds and acceleration, resulting in higher G-force as well as more noise. Reportedly, experts claim Top Fuel Dragster cars are capable of creating noise of over 150 decibels.
To put things into perspective, a typical rock concert creates a noise of around 120 decibels. Even with the facility of the earplugs, there is a constant threat of eardrums getting damaged with constant racing. Given Stewart’s long career on the tracks, it is a risk that’s always there with him, which is why he was mocked by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The three-time Cup Series champion recently appeared on Dale Jr’s podcast, The Dale Jr. Download. It was then that Stewart asked Junior the reason behind the low volumes of his headphones. He went on to joke if they were set at the “hearing-impaired” level. To this, the former Hendrick Motorsports driver had a witty response.
Junior hilariously said, “Yeah, now that you’re a drag racer.” While he meant it in a funny sense, it certainly is something to be cautious about.
Surely Stewart understands the risks that come with drag racing. In fact, the recently revealed how he’s adopting a safer approach to the sport.

It is no secret how drag racing demands a highly focused thought processing—albeit for a shorter time interval—compared to other forms of motorsports. While Tony Stewart understands that, he certainly learned it the hard way.
Speaking to FloRacing very recently, the Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner said, “It [drag racing] just is so explosive, it’s so powerful and you are accelerating so fast that your brain’s going what the hell is going on here. Last year in the car and the last two runs I spun the tires from about 200 feet out and didn’t realize I was spinning the tires.

“If you don’t catch it [spinning tires], you blow the thing up, blow the blower up or you blow the motor up and uh that’s expensive mistakes.” Certainly, these aspects are to be minded carefully by everyone involved in drag racing. On the other hand, it is interesting to see what more could Stewart achieve in his new venture this year.
