Try doing a survey of the most hated person in NASCAR right now, and chances are, Ty Gibbs will top that by a landslide. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t already disliked before, but after what he did in Martinsville, well, that quotient has gone through the roof.
What Gibbs precisely did, to keep it concise, is he wrecked his own teammate in overtime, Brandon Jones, who was having an excellent race, ended his playoff chances while he himself was locked in, took the win, and then celebrated as if nothing had happened.
This was what Ty Gibbs did.

Now, it’s not unusual for the NASCAR community to voice their criticism against what they see on the track.
However, in this case, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver seems to have united an overwhelming amount of people against him, including ex-drivers like Clint Bowyer, a current driver like Erik Jones, and spotter Brett Griffin among other big names from the sport’s circles.
Class used to mean something. 🤷♂️

Hope that race isn’t taken as an example by anyone coming up racing as how it’s supposed to be done.

I don’t even know what to say about what I watched.

I’m disappointed in you @TyGibbs .. signed a @NASCAR fan.

Makes me sick to see @BrandonJonesRac get wrecked like that at the end. Saying sorry every time by @TyGibbs sure does get old.
Some of those guys on Sunday want take that crap.

Not only does Ty Gibbs harden his reputation as an aggressive and reckless driver by wrecking Brandon Jones for the win … he didn't even have to do that.
If he sits in second place, Joe Gibbs Racing has two cars racing for the title.
Instead, it's just him vs. 3 JRM cars.

He deserves a suspension. That's the "new rule going forward", right? Or is that ditched a mere 2 weeks later now that Bubba isn't involved 😂.

Ty Gibbs and Brandon Jones react after the Martinsville race
Speaking after the race, the race winner, Ty Gibbs, seemed to feel no remorse for what he did. Rather, the driver who got booed from all over the Martinsville Speedway thought what he did was in a way, paying off of what had happened to him earlier in the race.
“He’s my teammate, but definitely want to get the win here. It’s important to get the win. And now we’re going to the championships. It’s cool. Hopefully, I don’t get hit by any cans or anything right here,” he said.
“We got moved out of the way earlier this year so, it’s part of it.”

On the other side, Brandon Jones claimed Ty Gibbs “doesn’t care” about what he did.
“He’s pretty much, well—he wasn’t ‘pretty much’—he was locked into the next round,” he continued. “I don’t really understand the move. I understand trying to get aggressive—you want to win the race. But to just destroy the race car, I don’t see it.”

“Maybe he likes to win that way? But I never have and never felt strong about racing that way. So, we’ll just take it and go for it.”
