Kyle Larson has had a long association with the Chili Bowl Nationals. Larson and his long-time rival across formats, Christopher Bell, have combined to take four of the last five Golden Driller trophies. But looking at the record, one would expect the duo to partake in it every year. That’s not the case in 2023.

Kyle Larson is a winner, and win, and he does that. One of the aspects that come with winning in NASCAR is the winner’s purse. Larson is already this year’s million-dollar winner with his dominant performance at the All-Star Race. It’s safe to say he has an affinity for dollar bills. Defending the same reasoning, Larson has hit back at a fan’s suggestion on Twitter.

Kyle Larson classifies himself as a professional race car driver in reply to a critic

In a recent tweet, Larson shared an image of a list of prize money offered by different motorsport events in the country. Channeling his inner competitive spirit, Larson tweets that he would like to win all of them. In addition to the tourneys listed he also adds that a Kings Royal win would top it off with a $175,000 prize money.

A fan expresses his wish that Larson should share some of the prize money with other drivers of the community. “Hopefully you will share some of the money you win with the guys who are doing this for a living. Money you don’t necessarily need.” he said.

Larson instantly calls out the fan for his flawed thought process. He justifies that he is a driver like every other one on the grid. Calling himself a ‘professional race car driver’ with some evidence to back him up.

Larson and fellow Cup Series driver Bell, were one of the legendary duos in the history of Chili Bowl. Asserting their dominance, they reigned in the event, but until this season. In an aburupt manner, Bell and Larson have decided to not compete in this year’s Golden Driller.

Citing an unsatisfactory amount of prize money as the reason, they have dropped out for 2023. A $10,000 prize money was not enough for Larson and he has addressed the same in an interview with Racing America. He says, “I’ve spent half of my life going there. But now that I’ve started racing in these other big events, against big names, and they just feel like a bigger deal to me than the Chili Bowl.” 

Larson was one of the biggest supporters of the series in his days racing there. “”In addition to the 10k Chili Bowl also rewards bonuses for the number of laps led in the race. While Chili Bowl continues its tradition of their trend in prize money, the topic has been of much discussion in the community.

Another JGR driver Denny Hamlin has also recently expressed his discontent over the distribution of money in NASCAR. It seems the solution to this might have contrasting opinions from everyone. While money is a big factor, it is not all that matters.
