This year had set in with a lot of excitement and happiness for Bubba Wallace when he tied the knot with his finance. But sadly, the NASCAR Cup Series season hasn’t been going well so far for the ambitious driver. While his move from Richard Petty Motorsports to 23XI in 2021 made everyone hopeful, things have not been great if we skip to the present time. Many would say that his hopes are shattered because of the multiple wrecks on the track this year.
It indeed would be disheartening for anyone who is trying to do their best along with their team but falling face down again and again. The 23XI Racing driver had been frustrated and we have seen him go down the self-doubt road. All the wrecks, and the mistakes leading up to those, led him to demand his replacement exposing his self-doubts at COTA.

In a recent interview on the LeBatardShow, Wallace opened up about his recent realizations. He emphasized that he has been very focused and trying to get fitter. The host of the show, Renee Montgomery, mentioned how Wallace has been his “worst critic” in the world. She then asked how “trying to turn the ship around” worked out for him and the team.
To this, Wallace said, “Well like you said, I’m super hard on myself and want to go out and just, I don’t, winning every race is undoable, you can’t do that. And so it’s not me chasing something that’s unreachable, it’s just me getting consistent showing like hey, we’re a front-running team.”
He further added that he did research and realized that in his six years of Cup Series career, the first seven or eight races, all had the same average finishes.
He said, “It’s just like man I’ve tried different things you know, 2018 I was a rookie. Six years in, I feel like I know what I’m doing, and it’s still the same average finish. And it’s nothing to brag about, and so you know that’s the frustrating part to me because we’re putting in the work. The team and I are working really well together, I feel like I’m putting in the work. And you know it was that final wreck (Talladega) and COTA, and I said what I said. My mom and dad had texted me, my dad was like, hey you need to stop being so hard on yourself.”

As the host was happy hearing what Wallace’s dad had to say, Bubba shared that he also received brilliant advice from his mother. That advice hit him really hard at that moment. He shared, “My mom said you know if you want something to change, then you got to change yourself. And I’ve heard that before, I’ve heard that many times. But for some reason, I couldn’t close the phone out without reading that over and over and over again.”
Taking his mother’s advice, he immediately acted upon it. Even though it was late, he went to his home gym after the race and exercised for an hour. He mentioned he works out twice or thrice a week now. It had been a while since he had hit the gym, but now he enjoys it and feels better.
It took him four days to realize that. But since then he has been eating better and working on his mental and physical health, Wallace certainly felt energized with his changed routine and said, “We’ve been finishing better.”
