Can Chase Elliott still secure a spot in the playoffs? The verdict remains uncertain as only six races are left before the playoffs commence, and the Golden Boy of NASCAR is yet to secure a win this season. Moreover, for the first time in half a decade, he faced disappointment in New Hampshire, finishing outside the top 10. And now, his self-assurance appears to have wavered.

This was evidenced by his responses to questions about his recent performances in qualifying races during a press conference in Pocono. Upon comparing him with his father, do the masses perceive that he has fallen short of living up to his father’s illustrious legacy, with Bill Elliott being one of the speediest drivers of his era?

Chase Elliott got annoyed by reporters’ questions about him not being able to qualify well

The Hendrick Motorsports driver has been facing an uphill battle to secure a spot in the playoffs since his return after recovering from injury. Amidst such arduous times, it is understandable that facing a constant barrage of questions regarding his winless streak can be exceptionally exasperating, as evident from his recent media interactions.

During the pre-race media session at the Pocono Raceway, when a reporter broached the subject of qualifying at the circuit, Chase Elliott’s discomfort with recurring questions became apparent. Serius XM’s Claire B Lang fired off an intriguing zinger, “Can you talk about qualifying, and the difficulty or art of qualifying here and how you look at it?”

Elliott responded, I am not the person to be asking about qualifying … if you haven’t noticed. I used to qualify okay, but we just haven’t qualified well in a while.”

He made light of the fact that, as of late, he’s been a bit off his game, and thus, may not hold the key to unlocking the secrets of qualifying at Pocono. He modestly admitted that perhaps seeking his expertise in this matter wouldn’t be fruitful. Elliott’s skillful comeback countered the reporter’s line of inquiry about his poor form, shutting down any further discussion on the matter.

Furthermore, during the interview, he delved into the pearls of wisdom passed down by his father when confronted with Bob Pockrass’s inquiry about the playoffs. With a glint of reminiscence, he said, “It’s like my dad has said over the years—you just have to ride the wave and continue to put the work in, and it will work itself out.”
