“Not My Deal, I’m Out” – Joey Logano Taps Out of Denny Hamlin-Kyle Larson Drama

Two major sources that attract human attention are outrage and controversies. And with controversies taking place in a popular sport like NASCAR, it is only normal that the mainstream media will live off them. Think about the commentaries that run along the races. There is more excitement whenever there is contact. Let there be a crash and all cameras pan at it. Hence, the sport demands all the heat that originates from controversies. However, not everyone likes to get involved.

There are drivers within the community who want to keep doing their job without meddling in the fracas. Team Penske driver Joey Logano is one of them.

Joey Logano does not have time for drama

The race at Richmond saw a brief sequel to last week’s Denny Hamlin – Kyle Larson feud that started at Pocono.

In stage 2 of the Federated Auto Parts 400, Logano sat in the top 10. After running three-wide with Hamlin and Ryan Preece, it all came down to the JGR driver and Logano battling side by side for second place. As Hamlin blocked Lagano, Kyle Busch was able to pass the #22 Ford. As a result, Hamlin finished second, followed by Busch and Logano. It was, regardless, an impressive top-5 finish for the 33-year-old driver.

In light of this, during the post-race interview, Bob Pockrass from Fox Sports asked Joey what he thought about the Pocono episode. Joey shrugged his shoulders and stated that he did not care about it.

“Not my deal, I’m out. I had no part of it. I wasn’t even in the race!” he said nonchalantly.

He admitted having watched the race like any other fan would have. But the major takeaway for him was to what extent Kyle Larson and Hamlin could go to get a win. With a career of over 15 years, Joey has nurtured the eye to comprehend how it might affect him someday.

“I know what I’m going to do to win races. That’s kind of where it sits. I know what’s the 11 [Hamlin] is willing to do, I know what the 5 [Larson] is willing to do… I kind of have an idea. When you’ve been doing it long enough, you kind of have an idea what everyone’s going to do at that point, how bad does somebody want it, and what they’re going to do to get that win.” he added.

After this, Pockrass then took Logano back to another one of the past week’s incidents at Pocono, which, although frustrating for him back then, seemed funny now.

Logano is tired of flat tires bugging him repeatedly. Pocono was no different. After having made a great start, Joey had to pull the brakes on lap 36. The workers had to tow his car down the pit road for repair. However, the defending champion went along with a rant at the workers, who were unable to hear what the former wanted them to do. The talking mic was off, but the camera was on and it recorded probably the funniest rant ever.

“Tow me, I need to be towed! A little hustle, come on! Tow me! Hook it up!  Hook the truck to the f****ng thing! I can’t drive it! God dammit, Stupid S** of a b***h!”

Logano told Pockrass that nearly everyone has experienced being stuck in a traffic jam and has used the same words to express their frustration toward the driver ahead of them.

“It’ll live forever, won’t it?” he said as both started laughing in the interview.
