During the Cup Series Playoff race at Texas, Denny Hamlin and William Byron entered into an on-track feud. Around lap 262, Byron and Hamlin were racing hard when suddenly Byron felt that Hamlin forced him into the wall inside the track.
Upset by Hamlin’s actions, Byron decided to get back at him. And unfortunately, the Hendrick Motorsports driver chose the time of caution to accomplish the deed. Byron hit Hamlin from behind, spinning him out of the track. However, in a post-race interview, Byron clarified that he didn’t intend to spin him. His intention was only to bump him and express his displeasure.
But unsurprisingly, this was not the case. In a recent video shared on YouTube, Byron can be heard saying that he is not going to tolerate Hamlin’s actions anyone. In fact, Byron’s spotter also asks him to see the big picture and not indulge in such revengeful actions. Here’s the conversation between the two.
Rudy Fugle Easy William (Byron): Big picture here, bud.
William Byron: Not gonna take his sh*t. That’s all it is.
Rudy Fugle: I respect that. But we’ve got a long way to go here. Okay?
Byron’s reaction on the radio to Hamlin’s car spinning does not reflect any remorse. In fact, it seems he got what he was aiming for. On the other hand, Denny Hamlin’s crew and spotter seemed shocked at the chain of events.
Denny Hamlin’s warning for William Byron on radio
Frustrated by what William Byron has done, Denny Hamlin and his team could not keep calm. Hamlin’s crew member Chris Gabehart and spotter Chris Lambert seemed confused when Hamlin spun out of the track.
Chris Gabehart (crew): What happened?
Chris Lambert (spotter): I guess William (Byron) just dumped us.
Moreover, connecting the dots to what happened at turn two, Gabehart and Hamlin discussed why no action against Byron has been taken yet. And in the heat of the moment, Hamlin said that he himself will serve Byron a penalty when he comes back to him the next time.
