The run for the NASCAR playoffs is coming to a close soon with just 6 races remaining. Hendrick Motorsports star Chase Elliott is still 60 points away from the cutoff to make it in. Whether Chase Elliott will get into the playoffs is perhaps the biggest question in the NASCAR community right now. And why not? Elliott is one of, if not the most popular, racing driver in all of America.
His fans surely believe that he can still make it. He’s a proven race winner after all. A NASCAR insider recently made a comment on the Door Bumper Clear podcast about Elliott that could come back to bite him if Elliott turns his season around.

While answering a fan question on the show, controversial NASCAR insider Brett Griffin took a firm stance on what would it mean if Chase Elliott didn’t make it to the playoffs. He was quick to dismiss the whole argument, essentially rendering it irrelevant based on how Elliott’s season has gone so far.
“It’s not gonna do him any good to make this playoff,” said Griffin. “If he makes it, it doesn’t matter. He’s led 38 laps in 13 races. That’s less than or around 1 percent of total laps that he’s run, 3000 laps.”
He continued, “He is not in a situation, he’s the slowest Hendrick car every week for whatever reason. Obviously, he’s coming off an injury, he’s coming off a suspension. I don’t know what’s going on with his team or this guy.”
But then he also pointed out good things to come as well. “We got 2 road courses, and we know he’s fast at road courses. I feel like he’s not out yet, he’s not out of the playoffs. You know why? Because we haven’t started the playoffs. There are things that could take other drivers out of the playoffs that are locked in.”
“If he gets in, it really doesn’t matter, cuz he’s not gonna have a championship run. Do I hope he proves me wrong, actually yes, I do, but don’t give me this Chase Elliott playoff Championship conversation because so far he is not proved to me why he should be relevant.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr, however, is of a different opinion. He still thinks that Elliott has a chance to make it to the playoffs if he can avoid having a disastrous weekend.

“I am a believer that Chase points his way in. There’s a very, very big competition in the booth between me, Letarte, and Burton about whether Chase points his way in. They don’t think he can. They think he has to win. I believe he can do it on points and I believe he will.”
