A few years ago, Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott made an appearance on Young Hollywood. The Hendrick Motorsports duo were talking about various subjects, especially about working together. At the time, Elliott was the fresh-faced youngster and Johnson was the established star. At one point, the two talked about nutrition and how important it is in the sport.
Johnson seemingly took a cheeky dig at Elliott’s youth and the fact that he was still very young. However, the #48 driver did acknowledge that the #9 driver was looking up to him. He said, “He’s not even 21 yet. I don’t think he even understands what nutrition is. I think he sees me enough focusing on the nutrition that he’s starting to pay attention.”

How did Chase Elliott respond to Johnson’s comments?
The future Cup Series champion admitted his inexperience and that he was looking to the senior driver for help. However, Elliott confessed that there are times when unhealthy food is too good to resist. On the other end of the spectrum, he observed that the 7-time Cup Series champion has a very active sporting life away from the track.

Elliott said, “He makes me feel bad, as is. So, as we get along I’m sure I’ll pay more attention to it. I try to do decent, I try try not to eat just junk all the time. But junk is good, so its tough. He can get away with it, he runs triathlons and everything else. So he goes and eats a candy bar, you know you want it but he earned it.”
Several years down the line, Jimmie Johnson walked away briefly from the NASCAR Cup Series. However, his fans can rejoice that he will be back in 2023, albeit in a limited capacity. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott will be keen to fight for another championship after coming up short in 2022.
