It has almost been a year since Dale Earnhardt Jr and Co. took over the CARS Tour Series’ ownership and one cannot neglect how the promotion has evolved. The series’ new sponsorship ties are a perfect example of the group’s successful undertaking in getting Late-Model short-track racing into the spotlight. But despite bringing along zMax as the title sponsor and the massive schedule reinvigoration, it looks like everything’s not going according to Junior’s plan.
Speaking to Parker Kligerman on his “The Money Lap” podcast, Dale Jr opened up about dissatisfaction.

Now, ever since the Late-Model asphalt racing promotion changed hands, getting a bunch of new brains at the ownership level, involving Dale Jr, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks, the scale has only gone up. With continued efforts, profound changes have come about in the Southeastern racing promotion.
Another major contributor to the series is its streaming partner, FloRacing. They got the once lesser-known promotion into the minds of ardent racing fans, arguably making it a household name. This, along with its short format of action-packed racing, got the struggling, downtrodden promotion out of the rut, putting it back into the limelight.
However, as we near the one-year mark since the new group took over, Dale Jr shared his honest take. Speaking to Kligerman on his show, he said, “There’s just a lot that we’re excited to share about the series, zMax is coming on board as the title sponsor and that brand is a great fit for as automotive motorsports sort of connection there so it be a good fit, easy for our drivers and ourselves to talk about and hopefully this is a long partnership in terms of title sponsor that’s one of the biggest parts of the puzzle when you’re trying to find.”
The JR Motorsports co-owner then opened up on the partnership with FloRacing, which to an extent failed to meet his expectations in terms of numbers. He said, “We’re excited to announce we’re going to continue our streaming partnership with FloRacing that’s really been positive for us and I was happy but not entirely satisfied with our numbers, they’re good numbers but I feel like our you know our growth and potential is way bigger and so I’ve you know these higher goals for us in terms of our streaming numbers but very good out of the gates for our first year, way more people saw us this year than years past so that was great.”

Now, managing a race team is not an effortless task and so is handling a racing series that needs to meet the fandom’s expectations. Well, Dale Jr has to do both. While the 49-year-old has the task of being in charge of JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series, he also has to juggle being one of the pillars of the CARS Tour.
Just after he shared the details about his promotion to Kligerman and his co-host, the veteran detailed the struggles as a co-owner dealing with drivers and teams in order to finalize an apt 19-race schedule. He said, “It sounds like putting a schedule together is very easy but all of these race tracks, their health and survival is critical as well, they’ve their own races that are non-CARS Tour events and they’ve other series like the Pros (ProLate-Model), Supers (Super Late-Model) that want to come to those race tracks.”
“So we have to find out where our races can fit, where it works for the track, where it also works for other series, so you communicate a lot with other series owners and our driver, team owners they’re like, we want the schedule now, where’s the schedule, when can we learn the schedule and we’re like, man this is not easy putting this thing together and you know, everybody wants the schedule before the end of the year,” said the veteran, giving an insight into his life as a team & racing series owner.
