The golden days of NASCAR are well in the past. Despite the organizers trying their best to appease a younger demographic, the numbers tell a whole different story. Gone are the days when the racetracks used to be jam-packed with fans.
Moreover, the organization has been criticized on multiple grounds by fans and experts. Recently, respected announcer and radio show host Dave Moody opined that NASCAR is headed toward a decline. Soon, fans too chimed in with their views on the discussion.

The decline in the sport isn’t just due to a single reason, but several other factors as well. As the graphs start sliding downwards, the organizers need to pick up the pace with their efforts and stop making wrong decisions.

Several fans spoke about how the sport had only been listening to the vocal few. This stems from the decision to tear down Auto Club Speedway in favor of a short track. The organization had multiple options for short tracks across the country instead they decided to take down one of the most memorable tracks on the calendar. Aside, from this fans also complained about the duration of the races.
NASCAR has not had even a semi accurate read on the pulse of the fans for several years. I've only enjoyed one race this year and they are tearing that track up. @NASCAR is way off. Sport is not progressive in appeal like others with streaming on content. I dont know what to say

Nascar is tilting at windmills. Cars / racing aren't as important to young generation as it was to us older gens. Teens don't work on their cars anymore to make them go faster.

Meanwhile, one fan on Reddit said, “I think lack of targeting the younger demographic over the last 10 years is starting to show up. Whether it be toys or video games, NASCAR has all but disappeared from major retailers’ shelves. Racing games are part of the core foundation of video games and for NASCAR not to have the best game out there is an absolute joke. Zero excuses not to have a great video game.”
It feels like Nascar is chasing after things from a vocal few. Then it gets spun to fit a narrative. For example: "we want more short tracks!!1!1!" turned into the destruction of Fontana. Indy road course is not enjoyable on tv. Road America was liked, only to be tossed. Clash?!

You want to know what Nascar fans want, REAL RACING TO COME BACK! Look how exciting the road race was without having to stop for stages! The crew chief got to use strategy & the driver was able to show case their talent! Stage racing is NOT what we want! It’s BORING! @nascar

Stop with gimmick tracks, stop with stages, stop with the playoffs where every race really doesn’t matter. Go back to what it was 2003 and prior. The sport was thriving, get away from artificial racing and gimmicks, go back to every race every lap every point mattering

Yet another fan on Reddit stated, “It’s more difficult to watch NASCAR than it is to watch most things as NASCAR is only on tv and doesn’t have a dedicated streaming service like F1TV or Flo or… if they made it easier they could attract more fans. Why would any new viewer switch from FOX to NBC halfway thru the season?”

Some of the fans also highlighted the importance of having a good NASCAR video game in the market. They believe it would help bring in more fans from the younger generations. NASCAR could have taken inspiration from Formula 1, and how they diversified into an official F1 game. It is not that NASCAR does not have its own game. It does, but the game is so terrible that no one wishes to spend a single penny on it. With several options available for NASCAR, what do you think they will end up choosing to keep the sport popular? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
