Riley Herbst is currently competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Stewart-Haas Racing. However, it seems that he has been holding out on his fans. If he were not a NASCAR driver, Herbst would have probably been a musician. At least that was what Stewart-Haas Racing Cup driver Noah Gragson thought.
In a recent video from Stewart-Haas Racing, Gragson spoke about his younger teammate in the Xfinity Arena. Of course, before spilling the beans, he actually called Herbst to ask if he was alright with him talking about it. Fortunately for the #10 driver, Riley Herbst gave him the green light to open up about his talent and also confessed that his own musical talent was practically nonexistent.

Gragson said, “Riley used to be an unbelievable saxophone player. His little buddy Noah [Gragson] over here sucked at the trombone. Horrible! But Riley was unbelievable at the saxophone as a young fifth grader. That’s something that nobody knows about Riley, is he was a really, really good at the saxophone. One day he brought the saxophone home, and his dad might have had a long day at work. He was going to practice his saxophone, and was told after a few minutes of practising, ‘Never bring that thing back home’. So he wasn’t able to practice and he was very sad from then on.”

His musical skills aside, Riley Herbst has also been fairly impressive on the race track. As a matter of fact, he boasts of a race win during the 2023 Xfinity Series season, when he triumphed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Admittedly, this is his seventh season in the Xfinity Arena, and the 25-year-old will be eager to prove himself.

In the NASCAR scene, SHR has struggled in the last couple of years. Last year, they failed to win a single Cup race, and their only source of joy was Herbst’s solitary Xfinity win. Additionally, Cole Custer’s three wins and the 2023 Xfinity title also brought them some happiness in an otherwise miserable campaign.
For the 2024 season, Custer and Herbst have linked up for a second consecutive season. Meanwhile, the Cup Series sees two new drivers join the fray, but their season has gotten off to a slow start. To make matters worse, two of their drivers have incurred hefty penalties for Noah Gragson and Ryan Preece. It is safe to say that the Cup Series side of the garage has a mountain to climb.
