Noah Gragson Leads Cup Drivers As 2022 Winner Steals an Advantage for 56th Snowball Derby

2023’s been a rollercoaster for Noah Gragson, but he’s dusting himself off and diving headfirst into the 56th Snowball Derby. And he’s not alone in the race for the Super Late Model win; a couple of speedsters from Hendrick Motorsports are also in the mix. At the Derby, Grangson’s all in, giving it everything he’s got to make a comeback. Remember his 2018 victory? He left Ty Majeski in the dust in a nail-biter of a race. Well, he’s back at it again, flexing his leg muscles in the qualifiers. While William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports seized a decent P13 qualifying, Noah Gragson zoomed into the top 5.

Noah Gragson snagged a solid third place, and while he’s pretty happy about it, he let slip on pit road that he was gunning for the top spot. Meanwhile, Derek Thorn, last year’s champ and the guy to beat, bagged the pole position yet again, his fourth in five years. Noah’s got his work cut out for him, but if anyone can shake things up, it’s him!

Reflecting on his qualifying performance, Gragson said, “I think that might have been the earliest ever qualified here. Overall, pretty happy with the car. I told you the other day, we were chasing the pole, came up a little short, but we’re really happy within race track”.

Noah Gragson also shared his evolving perspective on the track, noting, “This place feels like a completely different race track every day you get on it, it changes so much. Just trying to be aware, seeing how other guys run this place and learn stuff off them, that’s what I’m paying attention to.” In comparison, William Byron, racing here for the fourth time, and Travis Braden, a mechanic for the No. 48 Ally Racing team, lagged, with Braden finishing 20th in the pole.

As a powerhouse in the Xfinity Series driving for JR Motorsports, Noah Gragson had shown his mettle as a NASCAR driver. In 2022, he was tantalizingly close to clinching the Championship 4 race, nearly grabbing the championship from Ty Gibbs at the eleventh hour.

Carrying this momentum, Gragson stepped into NASCAR’s premier league with Legacy Motor Club, founded by racing legend Jimmie Johnson. However, his journey hit a speed bump. Earlier in August, Gragson got involved in a social media mishap that ultimately led to his suspension by NASCAR and Legacy Motor Club, and eventually, he parted ways with the team.

But now, Noah Gragson is determined for a turnaround after completing NASCAR’s mandated sensitivity program. Reflecting on his experience, Gragson admitted to Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut, “I was quite frankly uneducated and just ignorant. I’ve had a lot of conversations with a lot of different people, put in a lot of time and effort to learn and understand things that I just didn’t know anything about.”
