Without a charter agreement, 23XI Racing has put itself in a difficult position. The team does not agree with NASCAR’s new charter expectations, and now that they are way past the deadline, people want to know what is going to become of this. They recently signed Bubba Wallace, which has brought up many more questions that the team needs to answer. Denny Hamlin recently had a press meeting at Bristol, where he answered some of the questions. Among them was one that asked Hamlin about the status of the charter agreement, knowing that the team signed Bubba Wallace.
Without a charter agreement, many wonder if 23XI Racing will race in 2025. The charter agreement grants the team a confirmed spot in each race and also adds some monetary benefits. So when the team signed Bubba Wallace for a multi-year extension, people started to wonder if they were ready to agree to the charter deal. At the pre-race media meet at Bristol, a reporter from Frontstretch.com asked Denny Hamlin, “So with Bubba Wallace signing that extension and everything, does that imply that there’s been any kind of charter movement going on with a 23XI signing? And if so, was there anything that changed in your favor that you’re looking for?”
The reason why both Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan refrained from signing the deal was – their unhappiness with how much TV revenue teams would be getting after NASCAR made a very lucrative new broadcasting deal. To make the team’s stance clear, Denny Hamlin replied to the reporter’s question: “No, nothing’s changed on our side with that. Um, we’ve said for a while that we plan on racing next year no matter what, and so we’re sticking to that.”

According to Denny Hamlin, the team will be racing without a charter contract, which means that they might not participate in every event in 2025. However, in the end, the news that Bubba Wallace is staying has given many fans a sigh of relief.

Bubba Wallace’s contract extension
Bubba Wallace‘s future was hanging in the balance until 23XI Racing confirmed that they wanted him to race with them. The No. 23 Chevy driver just narrowly missed out on the playoffs and that became the reason why fans started doubting his place in the team. On the other hand, Tyler Reddick not only made it into the playoffs but also took things a step further by becoming the regular season champion.
With Reddick having a better season overall, fans started to believe that Wallace would not be signed. However, the team finally took the chance to seal a deal with Wallace, and this was announced on social media: “From day one, Bubba has been an integral part of 23XI. We’re excited to announce that he has signed a multi-year renewal and will continue to play a key role in helping 23XI grow and succeed. #ForwardTogether.”
