Before the 2024 season kicks off with the Busch Light Clash in a week, doesn’t it feel strange just how quickly the break has gone by? While the reason behind that could primarily be all the silly season shenanigans, the NASCAR world has also been blessing us with humorous and insightful stories from some of our favorite drivers and legends. So whether it was Dale Earnhardt Jr revealing Denny Hamlin’s questionable cooking skills or Chase Briscoe playing an entertaining yet pitiful prank on his dad, we’ve all had a blast. But just when everyone thought the winter break jokes were over, NHRA legend John Force blessed us with one of the most engaging off-topic stories so far!

Even the ‘homeless’ show their true colors in John Force’s presence

To those unaware of NHRA’s most dominant driver in many fans’ books, John Force established himself as an icon and continues to add to a 30-year drag-racing legacy that boasts 155 victories. And owing to his big-time reputation, Force has also had the privilege of fulfilling his philanthropic calling. So anytime the man sees another in need, Force is always quick to lend a helping hand.

However, many try to bite the hand that feeds them, and even worse, some that don’t need feeding at all, since they’re already well-fed. While this created a few doubts in Force’s mind whenever he tried to help out, the one time he thought he found a person in dire need, it turned out to be the man who cried wolf instead.

Force recently shared with Kenny Wallace, “Always the ones with the children, I always stop, even if it’s a scam. But one day I had a guy, I drove by, and I didn’t stop and I thought, you know, that looks real. And I turned around and I’d come out of the movie theatre, turned around and drove up to him and said: “Here, I wanted to give you something”. And I reach out, hand him something, and he goes, “Man I can’t believe it! It’s John Force!” And yeah I just, I said yeah, I can’t believe it.”

And while it was a first for John Force to have a homeless man not only recognize him but also mention that he follows him, what came next was the most unexpected twist ever! Force revealed, “He ran over and got in his Mercedes!” To which Wallace immediately replied, “Are you kidding me!”, but Force really wasn’t kidding. He went on to narrate, “No, and I said, ‘What is this?’ And he said, ‘Tax-free money! But I got so excited when I saw you’.”

The ‘homeless’ man was overjoyed at the sight of Force and immediately ran towards his parked Mercedes, and Force couldn’t help but stand in awe. He added, “He was running to get his phone to call his friends and say, ‘I’m talking to John Force.’, so that’s going on all the time! You know, that money, it’s tax-free. I mean, hey! They’re smarter than me! That’s all I can say, so, I don’t question anybody what they do. I just try to give back.”

But while this interaction was not an exciting one for Force, the NHRA legend is eager to return to Bradenton for the Inaugural SCAG Power Equipment PRO Superstar Shootout. In only a few weeks, John Force is ready to treat fans to an event filled with competitive drivers and a unique format that includes a chip draw to decide the drag matchups after qualifying, adding an element of surprise.

Speaking on the event itself, Force was excited to experience a new challenge as he shared with Drag Illustrated, “Anytime you win something new, it’s a big deal, it means a little more. I’ve been fortunate enough to win a lot of different firsts. The field is full of really good hot rods, but we’ll be in the hunt.”

The race will also leave the winner’s wallet rather happy with a payout of $250,000 in both the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories. Reflecting on the prize pool, John Force added, “The money is always a motivation. I mean, we split it up. Percentages go to the teams, always shared. But to put our name on the board as the first will be cool. Winning the money doesn’t hurt, it’s a lot of cash.”
