They say that in life, what goes around comes around. While Karma is often talked about in a negative light, veteran NHRA racer and motor sports legend, John Force is one who experienced the positive side of Karma. He spoke about his experience in a recent episode of Kenny Conversation with Kenny Wallace and it was a heartwarming story as the 74-year-old urged racers to not ignore fans, especially if they are children.

John Force is considered being one of the best in the NHRA competition. The 74-year-old is yet to announce his retirement from the sport and is a 16-time champion of the drag racing event. He will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. And perhaps, he’s also the oldest athlete still racing at the highest level anywhere in the world.

Being an eminent athlete means one has to interact quite a lot with fans. That becomes a part of the job and delivering that duty properly is imperative. There are times when drivers disregard fans for whatever reason and that is something John Force simply does not endorse. To prove how important fan interactions are, the veteran racer told a story about how a fan interaction got his daughter a sponsorship.

The venue was the old NHRA race track in Columbus, Ohio, where Force had only won his second race. After the event, he was in a rush to get home as his wife was having a baby. However, when a young fan implored him for a picture, the veteran did not say no.

“This guy came up and said, “Could you please take a picture with my kid” and I said “I gotta get home, my wife’s having…” I grabbed the kid and ran up on the stage and I put the kid on the stage and we took a picture and we ran back out,” the NHRA veteran said. However, in doing so, he missed the birth of his daughter Courtney.

As the years rolled by, John Force had forgotten about this until one day, his daughter needed a sponsor and his sacrifice in Ohio from all those years ago finally paid off. It is the kind of story you read in books.

When the sponsorship deal was finalized, John Force could not believe that someone had chosen them over so many other teams who might have been a better choice at the time. The 74-year-old did not take the name of the man who got the sponsor, but revealed what his wife told him about his doubt.

“I had a guy that brought me a sponsorship. Can’t say who it is and he was looking at everybody in racing and he sponsored my daughter but his wife told me later…I said he had all these teams to pick from, why did he pick…well number 1, he wanted a girl, he wanted a Top Fuel dragster. I said why did he pick us? And his wife said because when he was little, he went to the racetrack at the old NHRA track in Ohio, Columbus and I had won my second race,” Force said. “But in the middle of it, that man was the kid and he said, “You stayed just to get a picture.””
