When it comes to top-level athletes in major sports, by the time they are in their mid-30s, the clouds of retirement begin to appear on the horizon. Having said that, there are some exceptions. There are athletes like Tom Brady, for instance, who have ridiculed this understanding of how long can an athlete keep at it on the top level. But how about NASCAR? Who among the current harvest of “senior” drivers can be considered the Brady of stock car racing? Kyle Busch? Denny Hamlin? Kevin Harvick?

The sport at this point certainly has drivers who have been racing in the top tier for a pretty long time now—the veterans. It’s also pretty evident that these drivers are certainly proving every weekend just how good they still are, that age is just a number for them.

Still, their ages have a number. Hamlin is 42, Busch is 37, and Harvick is 47. So what would be “the Tom Brady age” in NASCAR, keeping that in mind?

Kyle Busch is asked about the “Tom Brady age” in NASCAR

The two-time Cup Series champion recently gave an interview on the Residency Podcast. During the conversation, Busch was asked about the age bracket that could be considered the “Tom Brady age” in NASCAR.

It’s worth mentioning at this point that Busch had compared himself to Brady and Peyton Manning towards the end of last year as he drew parallels between the two NFL legends’ careers and his own in NASCAR after his move away from Joe Gibbs Racing.

“I’m kind of looking at it as the Tom Brady–Peyton Manning aspect where they left great teams, great organizations where they won championships, and they went on and were able to win championships somewhere else,” Busch had said as per NASCAR.

“So I’d like to think that I still have that opportunity to be able to do that with RCR.”

Anyway, in his response to the Brady question, Busch gave an example of a NASCAR legend whose sheer longevity has outstretched even Tom Brady’s tenure in the NFL.

Kyle Busch nominated Kevin Harvick as the perfect example of the “Tom Brady age” in NASCAR right now. The Richard Childress Racing driver also cracked a hilarious joke about himself looking into the future.

“(Kevin) Harvick right now, he’s in his retirement year,” Busch said. “I think he’s 46, I think he turns 47 before the season’s over, so I’m 37. I’m working on my crow’s feet right now.”

Perhaps Denny Hamlin?
