William Byron reveals the lesser-known MLB connection to his unique celebration
Joining the hosts of the show, the community witnessed a happy and cheerful driver recapping the commotion on the track. Though some of the fans dubbed his Goodyear 400 victory as “selfish” for not letting the veteran Kevin Harvick get the win despite this being his last season, the HMS speedster’s post-race victory celebration has caught the eyes of fans.
And his team certainly loves the gesture, says the driver. After a clinical run at the iconic track, the community is all praise for the driver’s talent behind the wheel. Recently Kyle Busch lauded Byron’s latest victory. Despite the naysayers ranting, the 25-year-old is in high spirits and he has disclosed a lesser-known detail behind his unique victory celebration.
When asked about his celebration hat, Byron said, “Yeah, I mean honestly, this was a conversation throughout the off-season, I saw Josh Allen on 6.30 Monday Night Football, he put it on and after they won a game. I thought, ‘Man! That’s pretty cool idea and you know we went with it and thought, man, if we got a win, we’d love to put that thing on.”
While the celebration itself has been banned from MLB, Byron added, “So it took off from there and then I saw the Atlanta Braves were doing it after hitting home runs, they’d celebrate with it. And then, I guess MLB banned it, so whatever … But at least in NASCAR we can wear it. I like it. It’s goofy but the guys have fun with it.”

Racing is definitely a team effort, each driver has his team’s hopes riding on him and expects them to glorify their names as well in the victory lane. Goodyear 400 was certainly an action-packed event. Martin Truex Jr looked like he was going to lead, but things quickly went for a toss as the JGR driver wrecked horrifically taking out several drivers with him.
Byron, who was just behind the pileup, soon faced a dangerous situation ahead. The 25-year-old carefully stuck to his position and cleared out the pileup to be ahead of the pack. Kevin Harvick Chase Elliott followed him with their battered cars.
When asked about the “selfish” moniker, he replied, “You are always trying to race and do the best you can for your team and your car. But yeah, I mean certainly you know trying to help our teammate when we can. But I didn’t think of all those different intertwining things.”
