Alabama Crimson Tide’s head coach, Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday drowning the whole of the American sporting world in sorrow. The NASCAR world is no different in that aspect. Scorned and saddened by the veteran’s retirement, dirt racing veteran, Kenny Wallace was left with deep thoughts, contemplating the all-time great’s farewell from Alabama which prompted him to look back at his statement from a few weeks ago.
Kenny Wallace realized a hard-hitting truth
“The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me,” said the 72-year-old after 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa, taking the Crimson Tide to new heights and turning Alabama back into a national powerhouse. Saban joined the team, downtrodden and well off the rhythm, in 2007 only to get them back to speed, picking up the under-the-heel team, and transforming them into one of the most winningest teams in the college football scene.

For the unversed, Saban’s legacy is one that is pretty much unparalleled as the numbers speak for themselves. During its glory days, the team had an astounding record of 201-29, with 11 of those losses coming in Saban’s first four seasons. In fact, his teams finished unbeaten twice, never lost more than two games in a season since 2008, and finished in the AP Top 10 every year in that span.

Taking to his social media, Wallace got reminiscent of the harsh truth in life that he had reportedly revealed a few weeks earlier. The old-timer came from a less successful tenure with the Miami Dolphins whom he coached to 15-17 over two seasons. His first start with the Dolphins was actually a bitter-sweet experience with the team scrapping past and missing the playoffs after a rather slow start. Soon after, rumors flooded the football world, deeply speculating about the veteran’s journey to Bama as the team’s head coach.
Following a couple of bumps after taking the role of a head coach, Saban quite literally changed the storyline, taking the team to championship-winning heights. Reflecting on his time with the Crimson Tide in a conversation with ESPN, he said, “We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it’s about the legacy and how we went about it. We always tried to do it the right way. The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be, and be more successful in life because they were part of the program.”
