Chase Elliott is regarded as one of NASCAR’s most popular drivers. So when he nabbed his maiden Cup Series title in 2020, many were absolutely delighted. In the wake of the triumph, Elliott spoke about the reception he got at home. the #9 driver confessed that he probably slept for four hours.

He also admitted that people even came from all over the country to celebrate with him. The Hendrick Motorsports driver confessed, “I wouldn’t drive from my house to town to watch me do something. I’m just like, it’s nuts.”

Apparently, in the post-race interview, he admitted that he was racing with his back against the wall. In response to this, Kyle Long admitted that he figured out that Chase Elliott understood the importance of the moment. So he will try and capitalize on it and he thrives in this situation. Citing the example of NFL star, Patrick Mahomes, he acknowledged that both of them thrive in adverse situations.

Long also talked about Elliott’s versatility, wherein he can dominate on road courses and on ovals. All of this ultimately led to him becoming the champion. The driver admitted that the road to the title was long and arduous and sometimes he felt like crawling into a hole.

However, looking at it retrospectively, those tough moments helped shape him into the driver he is today. In addition to that, he admitted that it taught him many lessons, which have all come full circle now. Now, Elliott will be looking forward to 2021 and trying to defend his crown.

He is the first Hendrick Motorsports champion since Jimmie Johnson’s 7-championship run. In essence, this makes the 24-year-old his spiritual successor. However, Johnson’s shoes will be big to fill, but Chase Elliott knows that he is up to the task.
