Earlier this year, Frankie Muniz returned to racing as a full-time driver. While driving for Rette Jones Racing in the ARCA Menards Series, Muniz scored 11 top-ten finishes in 20 races and ended up in fourth place in the final standings. However, his future in NASCAR has been up in the air recently, and that could be due to a potential reboot of the popular TV Show ‘Malcolm in the Middle.’

The 38-year-old actor-turned-driver was a part of the sitcom cast two decades ago and continued to excel in his role as the main character of the show until 2006. But with Frankie switching his profession, a reboot at this time could be a dilemma for him. Frankie Muniz recently discussed the possibility of the same on Big Bang Theory actor Mayim Bialik’s podcast. While he has expressed his support for such a project, he also understood that some reboots might be unnecessary.

Earlier this year, Frankie Muniz revealed that he was pushing for a full-time ride in 2024, and while there was no concrete news of a return from him, fans have still been waiting for it. While his performances have attracted some eyes from different national competitions like Truck Series and Xfinity, more has yet to be decided.

At a time like this, a course of action that involves pulling out of NASCAR races to participate in a TV show could be detrimental for Frankie Muniz. Speaking on the Bialik Breakdown, Frankie disclosed his feelings towards a remake of the popular series and said,

“I mean, like I said, I would love it. Especially, like I said, I have a greater appreciation of even what the show is and was and would love to dive in with all of those people again to do it.”

There have been numerous reboots of popular movies and TV shows. While some have turned out to be great, some of them haven’t been up to the mark. Saying that he realizes how remakes can sometimes take away from the charm of a TV show, Muniz expressed that he’d want the reboot to be on the same level as it was 20 years ago or even better.

“In that same sense, that was 2014 or whatever when we really started talking about it. So many shows have been rebooted, and so many shows shouldn’t have been rebooted. So I don’t wanna be like just one of those shows – it has to make sense, it has to be good. So we’ll see. I would be into it 100% it if it happened, but we’ll see,” claimed Frankie Muniz.

However, with no recent news of his involvement in NASCAR and his plans for the upcoming season, his fans have been concerned. With his results in 2023, an upgrade to one of the three national tournaments couldn’t be ruled out either.

One of the emerging contenders for Frankie Muniz’s signature is RSS Racing. RSS Racing has been a mainstay in the Xfinity Series for a long time. While the team isn’t a frontrunner or title contender like Rette Jones has been in the ARCA circuit, RSS could be the launchpad Muniz needs in his NASCAR career.

However, the speculations of a move to Xfinity had emerged a few weeks ago. Since then, there has been no confirmation from Frankie Muniz or any of the teams. If anything, Rette Jones could retain his services for 2024 and perform better with improved equipment. Already 38, there is only a little time left for him to progress in NASCAR like a driver usually does. Having experienced the grassroots, he now has the time to drive on a higher level.

“Cup [Series] is definitely my goal,” Muniz revealed earlier. “I think that’s everyone’s dream, but I also know I’m pretty old to be getting into the sport. At 37, I don’t have 15 years to perfect my craft to get to Cup. I have to show I belong right away and the only way to do that is to have results now.

At one point in 2023, Frankie Muniz was sitting on top of the standings in the ARCA Menards Series. Only months later, he has a fourth-place finish in the final standings and a cloud of uncertainty over his future in NASCAR.
