What is the most bizarre trophy or award that one can think of? Sports enthusiasts may suggest Paul Bunyan’s Axe awarded during Minnesota vs Wisconsin College Football matches or the Giant Clam, also known as the “Mother of Pearl” awarded to the victor of Qatar Masters. These awards indeed have a pivotal position in their respective fields, but nothing stands a chance in front of Loudon the Lobster.

Every year, a whole lobster weighing between 18 and 22 pounds is awarded to the winner of the Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. NASCAR is surely setting the tone for other sports on the variety of trophies that can be awarded to the victors of a race. Along the whole spectrum of NASCAR trophies, a few like the Coca-Cola 600 hold a coveted position in the hearts of the drivers. However, this doesn’t hold true for Denny Hamlin. The 3x Daytona 500 winner harbors a regret.

As a veteran of the sport, Denny Hamlin has already achieved almost everything there is to achieve in NASCAR. But he revealed in the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast that it is not these trophies he desires the most. Rather it is the wooden surfboard that is awarded to the winner of the Auto Club Speedway race.

During the conversation, his co-host Jared Allen asked, “What is the best trophy NASCAR, in your opinion?”

To this, the JGR driver replied, “Oh, Gosh I don’t know. I have to think about that for sure. One of the best and it actually doesn’t fall into this.”

Hamlin’s co-host asserted the fact, “And don’t say Daytona or something like that.”

Hamlin retorted, “No, I was going to say California is one that I really wanted to … never going to get it. But at Fontana, like the surfboard and that was pretty cool.

“And there’s a quite a few of them that are awesome, but more silver, more gold, more wood combinations that it just never gets old. Like if you see some of the biggest trophies in NASCAR or really all of motorsports, like all the significant trophies, like Borg-Warner for Indy 500, right? It’s just a big a** silver.”

To this, Allen expressed, “That’s kind of what the Indy one or not Indy. The Gateway won reminded me of it in a sense.”

The No.11 Toyota driver jestingly added, “Yeah, it was cool, it’s at Kyle Busch’s house. If we want to go check it out.”

There are surely a lot more NASCAR trophies that this driver still desires to win in the upcoming races, and perhaps his maiden Cup Series championship. But the 23XI Racing co-owner has completely ruled out the idea of joining forces and driving in the long endurance race at the 24 hours of Le Mans. Hamlin surely applauds the idea of how Hendrick Motorsports is taking the stride to show the world the multifaceted attributes of the Next-Gen cars.

But in the episode of Action Detrimental, the driver acknowledged the fact that the world of stock cars is making efforts of reaching to the international platforms and to increase its diversification. There is no doubt in the fact that Garage 56 is a huge success in that step.

Nevertheless, participating in the endurance race is out of the question for the driver. He expressed, “So I know it’s not on my list. I would love to attend, I think it’d be cool to attend, I like those events because it’s an event. I’m not going there to watch cars go around the racetrack for 24 hours.”
