As the 2024 season is almost upon the NASCAR community, fans are excited as Netflix’s NASCAR: Full Speed docu-series is all set to premiere on January 30, only a few days before the Cup Series action kicks off at the L.A. Coliseum. And if F1’s Drive to Survive success is any indicator of how the NASCAR show will perform, the week ahead is going to be filled with entertainment!
In a five-episode series co-produced by Dale Earnhardt Jr amongst others, the Netflix crew will take fans on a journey not only through the 2023 Playoff battles between nine of the sixteen drivers but also grant eye-opening insights into the personal lives of both the drivers and their loved ones. So from Hamlin becoming the ultimate anti-hero to Ryan Preece rising from his horrific crash at Daytona, let’s look at what we can expect from the new show!
Capturing the pressure from the 2023 playoffs

It’s no secret that the 2023 playoffs were quite the spectacle, and Netflix aims to showcase just that throughout the five episodes, with an ‘intense focus’ on the complete story. NASCAR’s statement on the series states, “It’s a gripping exploration of the human spirit under extreme pressure situations, the tactical brilliance required to navigate the playoffs and the relentless pursuit of championship glory.”
This means we will not only witness how Ryan Blaney traversed the playoffs and brought in a momentous championship for Team Penske, but also get to see the other side of the coin as to how Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell, both of whom lost out to Blaney in the Championship Four round alongside William Byron, navigated the tough waters.
On the other hand, we all know how dramatic and unarguably well-executed Romain Grosjean’s deadly crash coverage was in Drive to Survive. Similarly, the Netflix production will surely look to give fans a detailed look at how Ryan Preece’s equally horrifying crash at Daytona unfolded. However, that wasn’t the only heated moment teased by the trailer released on January 25th.
Taking us back to May, Netflix will also highlight the time in Kansas when Noah Gragson got a little too close for comfort to Ross Chastain during their post-race altercation. The heated argument finally led to Chastain landing a solid punch on the driver, who was looking to make a comeback with Stewart-Haas Racing. So with a lot of the on-track action making its way to the Netflix home page, it’s going to be an exciting few weeks before the Daytona 500!
But once again, if you thought that was all the show had to offer, you’ll be glad to be disappointed.
The Netflix show will also give fans insight into the world of NASCAR’s WaGs!

While the show aims to show us a detailed view into the inner workings of the teams and drivers during the playoffs, what might also intrigue fans is the coverage of not only the drivers’ personalities away from the oval but also how the wives and girlfriends of NASCAR play a vital role in the family’s success.
Whether it’s Erin Blaney helping William Byron wind down by building Legos or Tyler Reddick’s wife declaring her otherworldly love for Mario Kart, the WaGs will also be out in full swing as Netflix aims to give fans a closer look at the family side of NASCAR. It also features the journeys of Brexton Busch and other child stars who are following in NASCAR driver’s footsteps.
