Ty Gibbs may be the newly-crowned Xfinity Series champion, but people still have a bone to pick with him. The driver did not earn too much adoration last weekend when he bumped teammate Brandon Jones out of the race. Owing to that, Jones lost out on a Championship 4 spot. In light of this, Denny Hamlin confessed that he had a word with the young driver.

He said, “Yeah I’ve talked to him. I talked to his parents and obviously it was very disappointing, the outcome, and how it all transpired. Certainly not something that anyone in JGR was really happy with. I gave my opinion on it, I told him I’ve made a lot of big mistakes in my career. I continue to make mistakes, but I always come out and listen to the other side.”

What else did Denny Hamlin say about Ty Gibbs?
Hamlin was pretty invested in Gibbs, because he was driving for him in the Cup Series. After Kurt Busch was forced to sit out due to a concussion, 23XI Racing roped in Gibbs as a substitute. Since then, he has been putting in solid performances. However, his race craft in the Xfinity Series, left much to be desired.

Hamlin continued, “To get educated from the other side on why it was wrong. At times you can look at it and say, you know, for a little while, I thought it was just about Brandon Jones. He needed to be sat down and educated on why it was wrong from a bigger perspective. From Toyota’s perspective, from the shop’s perspective, the team, the crew guys. There’s just a lot that goes into it that, when you become educated, you start to understand why.”

Now, Ty Gibbs will be looking forward to the 2023 season and what lies ahead of him. There is a huge likelihood that he could graduate to the Cup Series in the #18 car. However, there is no official word on that just yet.
