Is Michael Jordan's new jet a symbol of success or just another billionaire's toy?

Michael Jordan was already one of the biggest names in the world of sports and joining NASCAR only increased his popularity. A collaboration with Nike to create Air Jordan and an impressive career, the NBA legend has one of the most recognizable brands in the fashion industry. It’s a deal that has made Michael Jordan a billionaire, and that’s how he managed to fund his NASCAR team 23XI Racing.

While the trajectory of the team was going quite well, there has been a hiccup at the 23XI Racing garage. Amidst legal battles with NASCAR, Michael Jordan has a new toy he turned up with ahead of the Talladega race.

With a net worth of over $3 billion, it’s no surprise Michael Jordan has a jet. But what is not that very common with the very rich either is changing jets like shoes. In the past, Jordan was often seen in his Gulfstream G550. However, this changed recently when he decided to turn in his old jet for a brand new 2024 Gulfstream G650ER. Days after filing for an anti-trust lawsuit against NASCAR, the NBA Legend turned up at the Talladega race in style in his new toy.

The jet can easily be spotted with its elephant camouflage livery, and would it be a Jordan-owned plane without the signature Air Jordan logo? Jordan revealed his new toy when he flew into Talladega from Palm Beach, Florida, on October 6th. What’s more, special is the fact that Jordan got the jet registered with flight number N236MJ, which was the same number as his last jet. Why is this number special? Because Jordan’s jersey number was 23, one that he earned his record-setting 6 NBA championship titles, of course.

The jet is hard to miss and aviation fans quickly caught on at Talladega. The massive black, grey, and maroon jet stands out from the rest as it managed to set more than 125 world speed records, making sure Jordan is never late for a race. With a maximum speed of 0.925 Mach, the G650ER is a luxury jet that comes with two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines.

Adding to the luxury, it also has enough room to transport up to 13 passengers at breathtaking speeds without the travelers feeling discomfort. While the interiors of the jet remain a mystery, Jordan may have added customizations as he did with his older plane. Additionally, according to the reports, the jet costs a hefty $78 million, but what throws things over the top is the fact that its paint job is rumored to have cost him $500,000. The elephant camouflage is one that became synonymous with Jordan, with his former Gulfstream 550 as well as his yacht sporting the same pattern.

Like Mark Cuban once said, his first purchase after selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo was a $40 million jet, saying that it was his best investment to save time. However, this is not the only luxury purchase that Michael Jordan has made after becoming the NBA GOAT. So what else did he splurge on?

What does Michael Jordan spend his money on?

Cars, villas, and yachts are the three things that come to mind when we think about billionaire purchases, and Michael Jordan has them all. On visiting Michael Jordan’s garage, it will be clear that he is a collector, as he has multiple Ferraris, Mercedes, Porches, 2 Corvettes, a Bentley, and the list can go on. But when it comes to his most luxurious car, it has to be his $3 million dollar Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition.

Michael Jordan owns the 23XI Racing team and it’s only fair that he enjoys speed himself. That is why a Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir worth $2 million can be found in his garage too. So far, we have covered Jordan’s air and road vehicles, but what does the NBA legend use when he is traveling the seas? It has to be the yacht that cost him $80 million which he named “Joy.” The floating vessel comes with a basketball court, spa rooms, a luxury suite, and a helipad.

However, it was not all material things that Jordan put his money on. Let’s not forget that he purchased the charters for 23XI Racing and to add to that, he also had a large share in the Charlotte Hornets until he decided to sell most of his stake last year in August. Michael Jordan surely has the money, and might just startle fans with another big purchase in the coming years.
