In NASCAR, where speed is paramount and championships hang in the balance, one name has been making waves – Bubba Wallace, the ace of Michael Jordan. With the playoffs in full throttle, Bubba’s journey with 23XI Racing has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. But as the checkered flag fell at Talladega, the plot thickened.
Tyler Reddick and Wallace, the underdogs of the NASCAR world, are hanging on by a thread as they head into the final race of the Round of 12. Reddick sits just below the cut line in ninth place, while Wallace clings to the last transfer spot by a mere point.

For Bubba Wallace, the path is fraught with uncertainty. Road courses have never been his forte, with only two top-10 finishes to his name. However, last year’s seventh-place finish at the ROVAL offers a glimmer of hope. Still, it might not be enough to secure his playoff berth, especially if he finds himself battling Reddick for that elusive transfer spot.
His key to survival will be maximizing stage points, as he did at Kansas Speedway. But has he strayed from that winning formula in recent races?
During the recent podcast of NASCAR on NBC, Nate Ryan stated, “Bubba Wallace, it feels like he missed an opportunity here coming off a pretty good Texas race where he could have won and locked himself in. Today (Talladega) he finishes 25th, gets no stage points. And he went from being like, somewhere around the 13th/14th position to mid 20s on the final run.”
“Afterward, he was very hard on himself. He said, ‘I cost myself and Tyler Reddick a lot of positions. I just didn’t make the right move.’ It is so kind of surprising because the guy has won at Talladega, and super speedways are kind of his thing, both him and the team, but he didn’t seem to have it today.”
To which Kyle Petty his co-host stated, “Yes, and that is, yeah, he didn’t, they didn’t have it today for whatever reason.”
Bubba Wallace is NASCAR’s enigma this season. He defied expectations in the first four playoff races, but then Talladega happened. He struggled to find his groove, costing both himself and Reddick valuable positions. It’s a puzzling turn of events for a driver who’s known for his prowess at superspeedways. But that’s not all!

At Bristol, he drove a race that screamed ‘next round,’ but at Talladega, where it should have been his playground, he faltered. Kyle Petty stated in the podcast about the star of Michael Jordan,
“He exceeded all my expectations in the first four races of the playoffs. And in the fifth race of the playoffs, he did not meet my expectations. And that’s where he’s at right now. Because if you’re going to exceed expectations, you have to be in a position, I believe, to be elite. And everybody expects you to run good at Talladega and then go to Talladega and run good.”
He further added, “Everybody expects you to run good at Daytona or Atlanta, whatever that racetrack or homestead, because he’s been killer on the mile and a half. But I think he’s only finished outside the top five, one time on all the mile and a half. So we’ve got Vegas and Homestead coming up.”
