As the checkered flag waved under the neon lights of Bristol Motor Speedway, the ace of Michael Jordan defied the odds with a 14th-place finish in the NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops Night Race. The airwaves crackled with his victorious scream, echoing the improbable journey he and his 23XI Racing team had just undertaken.

In NASCAR, strategy is often the key to victory. Enter Bootie Barker, Bubba Wallace’s crew chief, who played the ultimate hand during the race’s opening stage. A masterful plan led to a third-place stage finish and eight precious points that would set the tone for the evening’s drama. In a recent episode of ‘Actions Detrimental,’ hosted by Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen, the spotlight shifted from the racetrack to the pit lane, shining brightly on Bootie Barker.

Other than Bubba Wallace, Bootie Barker is also talking to someone else during the race, someone special!

As Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen discussed the high-stakes world of NASCAR, they couldn’t help but acknowledge the extraordinary challenges that Bootie Barker faces in his pivotal role.

“Yeah, and you saw Michael to the very end was sitting on the pit box, and he’s right behind poor Bootie,” Hamlin said on the podcast. “He’s nervous anyway of what’s going on out there. He’s got MJ [Michael Jordan] talking in his ear, asking questions.”

He added, “And that just shows the passion that Michael has for this race team and the people that we’ve hired. And it’s great. It goes a long way, certainly, to our employees to see how passionate Michael is about the performance of the race team. And glad we’re doing a great job for him.”

“Speaking of mentally strong, I mean, Bootie’s got to sit up there, call this race, coach Bubba, right? Keep him level all while Michael Jordan’s in behind him.” Jared stated, to which Denny added with a chuckle, “Like, the toughest job in the industry. Yeah, Bootie’s got the toughest job in the industry. No doubt.”

It was a triumph few foresaw, especially after disaster struck at Kansas Speedway just a week ago, threatening to extinguish his playoff dreams. But the 23XI team of Michael Jordan overcame all these obstacles. But what did Bubba have to say about this outing, which was nothing short of a win?

Bubba Wallace’s triumph at Bristol wasn’t just a personal victory, it was also a lifeline for his team owner, Denny Hamlin. Wallace’s clean race ensured that both of Hamlin’s 23XI Racing cars advanced to the next round of the playoffs alongside Tyler Reddick. It was a moment of shared success that echoed through the roaring engines.

“We’re supposed to be out of this motherfu*ker, but we’re still in it,” Wallace shouted on his team radio.

As the celebrations continued, Wallace sat down on the pit road, visibly exhausted but content. Overcoming a daunting 19-point deficit to secure a spot in the Round of 12 had taken its toll. Stress had been his unwelcome companion, and yet, he had defied the expectations and emerged victorious.
