Michael Jordan‘s majority stake sale in the Charlotte Hornets for $3 billion earlier this year has definitely proved to be a blessing for his other business venture, 23XI racing. Co-owner Denny Hamlin also agrees! The veteran racer recently revealed what it’s like having the NBA legend around more often. He also shared the invaluable advice Jordan has given the team.

For Michael Jordan, the 2023 Cup Series season can be seen as a success. 23XI Racing has had a fine performance so far, getting both their drivers into the playoffs. Although Bubba Wallace was eliminated in the round of 12, Tyler Reddick is still going strong. If the 27-year-old can somehow make it to Phoenix, this season will be nothing short of exceptional for the team.

Things have been good for Denny Hamlin of late as well. The co-owner of 23XI Racing is on course to win his first Cup Series title with Joe Gibbs Racing. Hamlin qualified in P15 for the first round of 8 which he will be hoping to win, to seal his place in Phoenix. Ahead of the race, the 42-year-old revealed what it was like having an NBA legend’s undiverted attention in the 23XI shop.

Having an athlete of Michael Jordan’s stature will always have a positive impact on any sports team. A six-time NBA champion, Jordan strives for perfection and that is what he expects out of his employees. According to Denny Hamlin, his advice goes a long way with the team.

“I think he’s brought some very good intel into our meetings on mindset, on how do we get better individually as a team,” Hamlin said as per NBC. “He’s obviously been a part of team sports forever. He’s, at times, heard things in meetings where he’s like, ‘I don’t like that. We need to be more self-reflective on what we need to do better.’ That goes such a long way with our team.”

Denny Hamlin also shared how Michael Jordan’s increased involvement with the team has impacted everyone. It is always motivational when a team’s owner takes that extra care to speak to everyone, sit in on team meetings, and point out what he feels should be changed.

“He is getting involved in more meetings. He’s listening 99% of the time, but when he hears something he doesn’t necessarily like … as far as self-reflection is concerned, he’ll point that out,” Denny Hamlin added.

Right now, Michael Jordan has Tyler Reddick as his sole playoff driver. But there is not a lot of pressure on Reddick to perform, not as much as there is on the HMS or JGR drivers. So to an extent, the driver of the #45 can race naturally. His record at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway certainly says that he has a chance of finishing high up.

23XI Racing’s title contender heaps the ultimate praise on his team

Tyler Reddick will be coming into the Las Vegas Motor Speedway race with three top-10 finishes and one win in the playoffs. His record at the track is impressive as he has finished in the top 10 on three occasions with an average finish of 16.0. Reddick has won a race in Vegas as well when he used to be in the Truck Series. Ahead of race day, the driver of the #45 spoke highly of his team.

“I feel like we’ve got five or six cup crew chief caliber, you know, individuals in the shop. They’re helping guide the ship. This team pumps out two race cars onto the racetrack, but not at any point does it feel like there are two teams in the shop. Or three teams in the shop. It feels like one team,” Reddick said.
