It’s been seven years since Bubba Wallace made his NASCAR Cup Series debut. Over the years, the Alabama-born driver has seen and been through plenty. After struggling for a significant period, Wallace has gained momentum in his career. He is now looking impressive as he booked his way into the 2023 Playoffs this year.

The no. 23’s NASCAR career

After having started racing at nine, Bubba Wallace gained popularity when he won 35 of the Bandolero Series’ 48 races in 2005. However, it was in 2010 that he got entry into NASCAR as he started competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East series. As part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program, he was signed as a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing.

While he did that, it was in 2012 that he made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut as he drove for JGR at Iowa Speedway. A year later, Wallace made his Truck Series debut while driving the #54 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports. However, his Cup Series only journey started in 2017 when he was chosen to replace the injured Aric Almirola to drive for Richard Petty Motorsports.

 

After competing in four races, Wallace was able to secure it full-time the following season. Having said that, the biggest breakthrough of his career came in 2020 when the newly formed 23XI Racing confirmed the Alabama-born driver as their first-ever Cup Series driver.

With Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan as the team owners, Wallace has not only got their strong backing but has managed to find some individual success. Before the start of the 2023 season, the 29-year-old had two wins to his name, one coming at the Talladega Superspeedway and the second one at Kansas Speedway.

The 2023 campaign has been a positive one for Wallace as he qualified for the playoffs for the first time in his Cup Series career. While it is good news for him, it is even better for all his sponsors.

Off the track, Bubba Wallace has explored his talents in quite a few creative activities. In 2022, he released his documentary ‘Race: Bubba Wallace’ on Netflix. Interestingly, the docuseries got an impressive response from his fanbase as it gave an insight into Wallace’s struggles and success.

Aside from that, the 23XI Racing driver was also seen in Post Malone’s 2021 song “Motley Crew”.
