The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series has been a memorable one as far as 23XI Racing is concerned. Without a doubt, Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan would be delighted to have both of their drivers doing immensely well in the playoffs. However, things weren’t all merry for Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick at Texas Motor Speedway.

It is no secret that not many expected both of 23XI Racing’s drivers to qualify for the playoffs. While they achieved this miraculous feat, sustaining themselves in the playoffs has turned out to be tricky for them, especially for Wallace.

There is no doubt that Bubba Wallace struggled immensely in the early stages of the regular season. However, showing great character, he bounced back to make it to the playoffs. While he qualified for the Round of 16 for the first time in his career, he did amazingly well to make it to the next round.

Coming into the Round of 12, Wallace had a massive task as he stood 12th in the Cup Series standings. Naturally, the onus was on him to step up, as he did in the qualifying race at Texas Motor Speedway. The #23 driver finished in the pole position to get the much-needed head start on Sunday.

Bubba Wallace continued his impressive run in the main race as he led 89 laps, his career-best run. However, despite having a good start, it was his 23XI Racing teammate, Tyler Reddick, who won Stage 1. The #45 driver has been on an amazing run this season with two wins, nine top-five finishes, and 13 top-ten finishes.

While it looked like things were going his way, he struggled massively after a restart in Stage 2. In his words, it was because he was “Behind the slowest f**king cars on the race track”. It saw him stuck in the 26th position for a while after the restart.

At the same time, even Wallace had his own struggles. Despite managing to be in the top five for most of the race, he slid back to the ninth position in Stage 2. It was then that he admitted his failure to sustain his position. Wallace said on the radio, “I’m sorry, I’m just trying to hold on to it”.
