Over the years, NASCAR has only welcomed more celebrities to the sport. While that has greatly helped the sport reach newer audiences, it has also brought a unique vibe to the track. Some of those newly added celebrities involve the likes of famous American rapper Pitbull and the NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan. While the duo has been extremely approachable, Dale Earnhardt Jr had a tricky experience in the recent past.

In his stellar NASCAR Cup Series career, Junior more often than not enjoyed the popularity. However, despite being a celebrity figure himself, he was involved in a tense encounter involving both Pitbull and Jordan.

Post-retirement, Dale Earnhardt Jr has tried his hand in a number of ventures. While he has done phenomenally well with his own podcast “Dale Jr Download”, his time as a journalist has been equally adventurous. With his on-track experience and outspoken opinion, Junior has often offered plenty of insights to the NASCAR audience.

While he has enjoyed being part of the race coverage, Dale Jr has been lucky enough to interview plenty of well-known personalities. Given his stature, it is unnatural for him to be intimidated by a top personality. However, that wasn’t the case when he met Pitbull recently.

The recently concluded Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway saw Pitbull grace the garage area. While the American rapper couldn’t miss out on enjoying the race in his own backyard, he was there to support his team Trackhouse Racing. While none of his drivers were involved in the playoffs, it was a good chance for Pitbull to once again have a feel of the NASCAR arena.

It was then that Dale Jr, who was on duty with NBC Sports, got the chance to interview the renowned musical artist. Speaking about it recently on his podcast, Junior said, “It’s always nerve-wracking.” Having said that, he couldn’t resist knowing one particular thing from Pitbull or for that matter, any celebrity when they witness a NASCAR race.

He said, “They’ve been there that day, they watched the race or whatever. I really want to know their impression. Did they like it, ssi it better than they thought, is it not good/ I want to know what that person thinks. What are they gonna go back and tell their friends, what are they gonna say? And so that’s my first thing and that’s my question to Pitbull.”

While Junior explained how wonderful Pitbull was, he explained why interviewing a celebrity is tricky for him. He said, “And so he [Pitbull] was full of energy, great guy, really genuine, fun to talk to, easy. Sometimes you get nervous doing that, doing an interview with a celebrity because you are not sure how well they will work with you in those moments and how happy they’ll be doing the interview on camera.”

Dale Jr also gave the example of how he felt similarly when he interviewed the great Michael Jordan in the past. He said, “I interviewed Michael Jordan at Homestead a couple of years ago. You’re just always nervous but excited and it’s a great experience when you’re done.” It indeed was an entertaining interview back then.

Dale Earnhardt Jr interviews Michael Jordan as the NBA Legend expresses his love for NASCAR

It was back in 2019 that Michael Jordan was seen attending the NASCAR race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Those were the early days after the formation of 23XI Racing took place. Luckily for Dale Earnhardt Jr, he got to understand Jordan’s love for the sport as he interviewed him.

Dale Jr asked him about his passion for NASCAR. To this, Jordan said, “I’m a big race fan. Started off when I was a kid and I grew up watching [Dale Earnhardt], Richard Petty [and] Cale Yarborough was an original 11 that I remember. Now I’m good friends with Denny Hamlin and we go way back. He’s a season ticket holder at the Hornets, and I spend a lot of time playing golf with him and obviously I’m a big NASCAR fan, so I came out to support him,”

Adding more to the subject, he said, “I’ve known Denny now for seven years. He’s just gotten better, and my interest in the sport has been there for a long period of time. I love watching; I set my clock every Sunday to watch NASCAR and I pay attention. Actually, I enjoy spending time here.”
