The Cup Series races on speedways couldn’t be more unanticipated than the playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway. Racing on the track for the first time in the season was a gradual unfolding of mayhem on the track as drivers struggled to find traction and dealt with mechanical failure and the scorching heat of the sun.

However, the grit and determination that the drivers exhibited changed every obstacle to mere dust as they raced hard in order to take the chequered and outdueled field to run up in the front, especially Kyle Larson. The speedster of Hendrick Motorsports was assertive on Sunday, but the hands of fate intervened, changing the tidings of the race and succumbing to the 23XI Racing team.

After struggling for the majority of the season, Bubba Wallace finally showed signs of resurgence as he made his playoff debut. Moreover, the driver was able to enter the Round of 12 with points below the cut line. However, in order to take control of the race, the driver delivered an impeccable show during Saturday’s qualifier and earned the pole position. It was the first pole position for Bubba Wallace in the ongoing season and his career’s second pole position.

Due to this, the driver led his career-high laps and also the fastest lap in the race. The momentum that Wallace displayed was beyond impressive. He was able to navigate himself and hold his top position by averting any on-track occurrences. However, the driver soon found himself in a precarious position when his position was threatened by Kyle Larson and usurped by him, but the HMS driver was soon met with a twist of fate that ended his day tragically.

The inception of the whole incident can be traced back to when a caution was issued when JJ Yeley spun out on the track. As a result, both Wallace and Larson found themselves door-to-door jockeying for the lead during the restart. However, it was Wallace who took the upper hand in the restart, and in order to regain position, he tried to make a pass but took the air offside, which eventually spun him out and delivered a big blow to his winning hopes, and he was relegated to the 31st finish.

HMS Speedster reveals the reasons behind the fateful day

Had things fallen into their original position instead of getting wrecked, Kyle Larson would have been able to deliver the 300th win to the winningest team in NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, but it was William Byron who created the milestone. Nevertheless, in his post-race interview with Frontstretch media, the driver was asked about the positive takeaways from the race.

To this, Larson replied, “I mean race car was super fast, I mean we had an extremely fast car so was fun to drive and just a bummer. I wasn’t expecting to get in loose like that underneath the 23 [Bubba Wallace]. The connection cars don’t seem to be an issue so I was trying to get my shape into one, should have given a little bit more space.”

“I don’t think so it is a big part of the car I think if I could just replay it again it would just give spaces in Round 1 and race it out of a two and eventually the bottom would have won out so I was trying to get it all quickly and should have worked for another corner.

With this being said, it was really unfortunate on Larson’s side and he just fell short of the remaining last races to mark the historic event but was marked with William Byron’s win. With NASCAR moving to Talladega it is to be seen what is in store for the Hendrick Motorsports team.
