Recently NASCAR announced a $50,000 penalty for Daniel Suarez after he dangerously bumped Ross Chastain and then Alex Bowman in the pit lane after the race at COTA. But the penalty that Suarez got isn’t one that Freddie Kraft, the spotter of Bubba Wallace, demanded.

As compared to last year’s Ty Gibbs incident of a similar nature for which the youngster was fined $75,000 and 25 points, Suarez got off pretty easy with just the fine and no points.

Suarez’s expected penalty and the incident’s resemblance to the Gibbs incident were something that Kraft had talked about recently. Both he and fellow spotter Brett Griffin had termed it as absolutely unacceptable behavior from Suarez.

Brett Griffin claims Daniel Suarez’s actions could’ve led to tragic consequences

In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Brett Griffin reacted to the “huge error” Daniel Suarez made in the pit lane at COTA. “I’m just gonna point it out, when he caught Bowman after the race and he hit him, there’s an official standing right there on the left, less than 10 feet from them,” Griffin said.

“We burned Ty Gibbs to the ground last year on the show for doing something very similar,” the spotter continued. “There’s a f**king human standing there, and if you hit him a little harder, and he loses control of that car, and he spins out, that human is at risk of death.”

Griffin claimed he understands the anger and frustration Suarez had, but he should’ve been more considerate of the safety of others before he decided to act the way he did.

“He’s upset, but you have got to have people talking to you and you have got to have enough mental fortitude about you to not do that,” he added.

The spotter of Bubba Wallace had called on NASCAR to give Suarez the Gibbs treatment

Adding to Griffin’s point, Freddie Kraft claimed that the incident on the pit lane made Daniel Suarez, “an idiot personified.” Wallace’s spotter claimed that if he wants to show his frustration in that way, there is a pretty big racetrack where he can do so. But even there, he shouldn’t.

“I don’t think he should do it anyway because half the time these guys start unbuckling, drop the window net, get some air,” Kraft added.

He had brought up the Ty Gibbs situation from last year and added that if NASCAR doesn’t treat the two similarly, then it could get controversial.

“Last year, Ty Gibbs, we talked about it, Texas I think it was, he swerved at somebody while there’s a pit stop going on, $75,000 and 25 points,” Kraft described. “If this is not at least that, then NASCAR has really dropped the ball here.”
