NASCAR’s recent trends have been infectious. On February 2nd, 2025, the Cup Series returned to the Bowman Gray Stadium for the first time since 1971. Just last weekend, Rockingham Speedway returned to the Craftsman Truck Series after 13 years and to the Xfinity Series after two decades. This tendency to revive older tracks and tickle fans’ nostalgia has been catching up. Now, veteran Greg Biffle wants to jump in on a project.

Greg Biffle, a 19-time Cup Series race winner, is one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers. Among his varied achievements are the 2000 Craftsman Truck Series championship. So Biffle competed between 2004-2008, when a certain speedway was operational. Holding memories close to his heart, the veteran is seeking a revival of the track located in Ohio.

Greg Biffle is clear about what he wants

Mansfield Speedway, opened in 1959, had a brief encounter with NASCAR. However, the memories created were huge. Veteran drivers like Ron Hornaday Jr(2006) and Bobby Hamilton (2005) clinched Truck victories at this half-mile oval. Then, a 15-year-old racer from Connecticut won the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division race. That was none other than Joey Logano, who went on to win three Cup Series championships (2018, 2022, and 2024). Given the rich heritage that Mansfield holds in connection with NASCAR, some veterans are interested. Among them is 1998 Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year Greg Biffle.

On Wednesday, Matt Tifft, a former Cup Series driver and team owner, released a few eye-catching pictures on X. They were of Mansfield Speedway showcasing its dilapidated look. After hosting a race in 2010, the speedway resurfaced with a brand new plan in 2015. In 2017, the track’s asphalt surface was removed, and it was reverted to a dirt track. Mansfield has not hosted a racing event since 2019. So Tifft, who raced in all three NASCAR national series from 2014 to 2019, suggested breathing new life into this track. Tifft wrote, “Thinking there may be a future here yet…. Should we save a lost speedway?” Immediately, Greg Biffle appeared in the comment section with his lively energy. “I want it,” he wrote.

After all, nobody can be in doubt about Greg Biffle’s superb leadership skills. When Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, the 54-year-old racer jumped aboard the relief effort. He used his personal helicopter to deliver aid to the flooded, remote region. Besides, Biffle has also been part of the revival of another track, Tri-City Raceway. Last year, the ARCA Menards Series returned to the Washington track for the first time since 2003. Biffle rushed to race at the venue where he won championships in 1995. Biffle said in August 1994, “I just loved the race track so much that when they closed it up, I was making a run at it to keep it operating and keep it open. I thought it was going to go away like all these other race tracks did. It’s a neat race track, and I’m very, very happy to see racing return to that part of the country.”

NASCAR fans are all in for another oldie

Well, all the revived tracks that NASCAR presented to fans have been hits. After Dale Earnhardt Jr and Co. strove to resurrect North Wilkesboro Speedway, local residents campaigned for it. Then, Bowman Gray saw fans drooling over the ‘grassroots racing’. Rockingham presented a caution-riddled Xfinity race with a shocking climax. So fans responded enthusiastically to Greg Biffle’s interest. Somebody pleaded with him to slip into his charismatic self for this project. “Come on Biffle. Bring it back!” Another fan said Biffle could count on the help of Cleetus McFarland. The YouTuber and current NASCAR racer had aided Biffle in Hurricane Helene, and could very well help him here as well. “You and Cleetus can knock this out in a weekend.”

What is more, Mansfield Speedway holds a special place in people’s hearts. In May 2003, Jack Sprague won the inaugural UAW-GM Ohio 250 race, which witnessed a 94-lap caution period. Then, rookie Donnie Lia won the 2008 race in a wild three-wide photo finish. All these memories remind fans of what a spectacle Mansfield could be if it came back. So somebody rooted for Greg Biffle and Matt Tifft to put their heads together and make it happen.“Biffle and Tifft announce the Grand Reopening of Bifft International Raceway Park Motor Speedway!!! #ComeGetBifft.” Somebody else chimed with this sentiment with a simple one-word response. “YES.”

After 2010, the speedway’s previous owner ran into financial troubles. Then, the track was purchased at auction by local businessman Grant Milliron. Milliron inked a deal with K&B Promotions in 2015 to bring racing back. Although nothing much could come out of that, Greg Biffle could finally make it happen with his legendary status. So one fan said, “I’m begging you Greg, please reach out to Milliron Auto about it (I believe they still own the land) whether it’s pavement, or dirt, we need Mansfield back.”
