As we are all aware, NASCAR drivers are paid hefty amounts to race in the Cup Series. The situation is completely different for Xfinity and Truck Series races though. The drivers in the Xfinity or Truck series, in general, rely solely on the sponsors or splash bountiful cash from their pockets. This very situation was highlighted by Team Penske‘s #22 Joey Logano.

The two-time NASCAR champion elaborated on the concern that runs for the drivers who wish to drive in the Truck or Xfinity series. He described how NASCAR’s ‘money-centric’ approach is preventing them from participating in these races. NASCAR enthusiast and content creator Eric Estepp disapproved of Logano’s claims by bringing in a fresh perspective.

Is the business model brought forward by NASCAR as concerning as Logano claims it to be?

Estepp did not deny Logano’s claims completely and accepted that it is a very real problem in the lower NASCAR ranks. However, he came up with some valid points to counterpart the Penske driver. He pointed out how these two series chiefly support young, potential drivers of the future to evolve.

“That being said, I’m not sure it’s quite as big of a problem as Joey Logano makes it out to be. The Truck Series has turned more into a development series, if you’re a young driver who shown some ability, who shown some promise, who has a ton of potential. I think there’s still manufacturers, teams and sponsors willing to invest in you. Same goes for Xfinity series,” Estepp said.

He then brought forward examples of drivers like Rajah Caruth, Corey Heim, Nick Sanchez, who are under different sponsors. The sponsors rely upon them to set the standards in the future, in the process of increasing their brand value. Estepp further stated, “If you’re a veteran driver like Joey Logano, who is just dipping your toe in to try and chase a trophy, then no. The payout is not enough for that to be a justifiable expense.

That is a problem. It’s one hopefully over time maybe the next TV deal, changing models will evolve. But I don’t think it’s quite as doom and gloom as Joey Logano makes it out to sound. I think his case is just very unique.”

In an episode of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Logano opened up about the problem that he is facing in Xfinity or Truck races. Despite being a two-time champion, Logano claimed that he has to pay a hefty amount. The Ford Mustang Dark Horse driver figured that it would be an even bigger concern for young drivers.

“I get paid to drive a Cup car, that’s great. I have to pay to drive a Xfinity car or a Truck, I have to show up with money on doorstep to drive one. If a two-time NASCAR champion can’t drive an Xfinity car for free, never let get paid for that, that has to pay to drive one, how do you expect a kid that’s got no experience, to come up with the money from you know a sponsor to pay to go do something like that,” questioned Logano.

Logano also stated that it is this scheme of NASCAR that he truly dislikes. Let us see if this concern of the Penske driver strikes the NASCAR authorities. If it does, what changes do you think they are going to make, and how long it would take?
