Erik Jones is no stranger to charity. The Legacy Motor Club driver is known for giving back to his community and has received various honors for his contributions in recent years. The racer was the recipient of the 2024 Comcast Community Champion of the Year award, for his selfless work in early cancer screenings and detections. Last year, Hurricane Helene caused billions of dollars worth of damages, causing devastation in the Southeast. However, Jones stepped up once again, lending a helping hand through his foundation.
The Michigan-based racer isn’t just helping humans but also animals affected by the category four storm. With winter currently underway, Jones has identified the potential challenges affecting livestock and has taken prompt action to provide relief.

Erik Jones might not be lighting it up on the track, but he’s surely winning hearts off it. The Legacy Motor Club driver had somewhat of a lackluster Cup Series campaign in 2024, finishing 28th in the drivers standing after securing just one top-five and two top-ten results throughout the season. However, his contributions off the racing track were far more impactful, with his foundation providing donations and offering programs to a variety of communities in need of assistance. Recognizing his contributions, Comcast offered the Erik Jones Foundation a $60,000 grant in 2024, which will also go towards charity.
It seems like Erik Jones has now extended his assistance towards livestock as well. A tweet uploaded by his foundation read, “The Erik Jones Foundation is proud to support animals in need following the devastating flooding in Western North Carolina caused by Hurricane Helene. We teamed up with a group of farmers from Northern Michigan to ship essential winter feed, providing much-needed relief to those affected. This partnership is a reflection of Erik’s connection to his two home states.”
Jones was born in Byron, Michigan, which is where he began his racing journey with midget cars at the age of seven. Naturally, Hurricane Helene’s devastation hit close to home, prompting the racer to take prompt action to provide relief for the victims. The 28-year-old is also attached to North Carolina, as his home is in Cornelius, where he lives with his wife Holly Shelton, and son David Wayne Jones. The subsequent flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene severely affected the livestock in the two states, and Jones’ contributions will provide much-needed relief to the farmers during winter.

Erik Jones’ selfless efforts have helped him build a good reputation in the community, with Matt Lederer, vice president of brand partnerships and amplification of Comcast saying, “Erik has consistently demonstrated his passion for meeting people where they are—offering support, resources, and hope.” The Cup Series driver also began an initiative called #ReadWithErik during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he filmed himself reading children’s books on Facebook, and hosted in-person meetings on racetracks and in schools.

Jones has much to prove in the 2025 season
Trending
Erik Jones is not a rookie. The 28-year-old has spent eight full seasons at NASCAR’s highest level but has not finished above 15th in the driver standings in all those years. With Legacy Motor Club making wholesale changes to its backroom staff, expectations will be high from Jimmie Johnson going into the 2025 season. While his off-track contributions are commendable, the Michigan native needs to significantly improve his performances in the Cup Series.
Statistically, 2024 was the worst year in Jones’ career in NASCAR’s premier series. With an average finish of 22.9, the racing driver struggled to take advantage of his experience to climb up grid positions during races. He also missed two races because of a back injury sustained during a clash at Talladega Superspeedway, which may have also affected his momentum. Ben Beshore, who began the season as crew chief for John Hunter Nemechek shifted to the No. 43 team for the last five fixtures, but the change yielded no improvement in results.

However, 2025 marks a new beginning for Erik Jones. He showed glimpses of his former self at the 2024 YellaWood 500, where he finished fifth, his best result of the season. The two-time Southern 500 winner will be expected to challenge for a playoff spot if he wants to safeguard his future with Legacy Motor Club. Perhaps a full season with Ben Beshore atop the pit box might help the racing driver overturn his slump in form. Time will tell if Jones manages to turn his situation around in the upcoming Cup Series campaign.
