From the frying pan into the fire—this pretty much sums up Chase Elliott’s Michigan run on Sunday. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who desperately needed a win to keep his playoffs hopes alive, yet again failed to deliver as his luck struck out-of-tune chords in lap 34, ending the 2020 Cup champ’s day in agony.

While the 2023 season so far has been nothing but a nightmare for NASCAR’s Golden Boy with an unfortunate accident, a penalty, and multiple poor runs sidelining him, things just kept on stacking up for Elliott as his day turned sideways in the blink of an eye.

With the HMS star ending his day awfully, riled-up fans quickly got on the offensive, bashing the driver while they demanded swift action from the boss man, Rick Hendrick himself.

Chase Elliott’s grim streak continues as his Michigan adventure takes a turn for the worse

Going into the race, Elliott desperately needed a win to keep alive his playoff hopes let alone his championship dreams. While Elliott’s and HMS’s fans were anticipating the grand return of the driver back to form, they were quickly let down following a vicious wreck that ended all hopes.

Though the community was vary of a caution-filled speedway race, they certainly did not have such an anti-climax in mind—to see the #9 driver crash out on his own. Running 9th, things went for a toss when the rear tire of the #9 Chevy gave up right when Elliott was entering a turn.

With the Chevy literally going sideways into the wall in turn 2, bringing out the 2nd caution of the day, the defending regular season winner felt the impact as his car slammed into the wall, receiving the brunt of the impact on the rear. While the organization was busy scrambling to save its poster boy’s face with a tweet, fans on the other hand did not have any of this as they went on a rampage calling out his 2020 championship-winning crew chief and urging Mr. H to take drastic measures.

With Elliott once again failing to deliver the hype riding on him, ardent fans were quick to let their emotions known. Several people bashed Elliott’s crew chief, Alan Gustafson, who had helped Elliott clinch the 2020 title, completely disregarding his contribution and dragging him through the mud. His decision to let the #9 Chevy go without a tire change certainly enraged the fans as they bashed him mercilessly.

“Until Chase gets a better CC we aren’t going nowhere”

Even the organization felt the heat as fans bashed NASCAR, saying, they’ll gift their boy a spot, “We know you’ll gift him a playoff spot”
