Chase Elliott is often regarded as one of the most popular NASCAR drivers. In fact, he has a bit of a ‘nice guy’ reputation, which explains his popularity. However, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, some fans got to see a different side of the Hendrick Motorsports star. After the race, cameras spotted the #9 driver talking to teammate William Byron. However, Elliott noticed the camera and pushed it away and gestured for the cameraman to go away.
Safe to say, these actions baffled many people, especially since the camera people were simply doing their jobs. In his defence though, he had just endured a nightmare race at the Roval, where he was in a good position to try and win. However, a late spin spoiled his chances of reaching Victory Lane. So it was understandable that he was disgruntled and not in the mood to entertain cameras.

Why did the NASCAR community hit out at Chase Elliott?
Elliott’s actions can be seen as a bit aggressive. However, pushing the camera operator was uncalled for, because they were doing their jobs. On that note, some suggested that there would be a massive circus if someone like Kyle Busch or Bubba Wallace did it. Ultimately, the camera operator is not a driver’s PR person who is there to capture them in a good light. Other people suggested that not many people were too thrilled when Kevin Harvick confronted journalist, Jordan Bianchi.
Being aggressive can be fun when it comes to racing but there's no need to push around a camera operator that's just trying to do an assigned job.
Just trying to imagine the uproar that would have happenned if this was Kyle Busch or Bubba Wallace. https://t.co/Q0b0K2a0ry

That's not how it works. You can't pick and choose your coverage in a public space. The camera operator isn't your PR person and there to only show the happy moments.https://t.co/lNhu7K8bGZ

I find it odd that people are praising any driver for acting like this towards a cameraman just doing their job. Didn't like it when Harvick did it to Bianchi either.
You want to talk in private, then don't stand in the middle of pit road.

The bottom line is don't aggressively touch people or their stuff

If Chase Elliott wanted a private conversation with his teammate, then pit road was not the best place for it. IndyCar driver Dalton Kellett even declared that Elliott’s actions were pretty childish. A few people did not understand the #9 driver’s ire, either. After all, they did not intrude on his personal space or invade his personal trailer.
That’s child behaviour

That was kind of weird. It’s not like they barged into Chase Elliott’s trailer lol

So strange, I get the “give me some space” stuff but the whole “go on clear off don’t even look at me” was just kinda whaaaa?

A few NASCAR personalities understood that the 2020 Cup Series champion wanted a little bit of space. However, Elliott’s gesture shooing the camera person away, struck a nerve among many.
