NASCAR Xfinity: Austin Cindric Wins at Daytona, Ties the Record of Five Win in Six Races

Austin Cindric has been in fine form lately and capped it off with a win at the Daytona road course. As it turns out, this is Cindric’s fifth victory in the last six races.

The 21-year-old was so dominant that he pulled off a massive 7.1-second gap over Brandon Jones at the finish line. In the process, he has tied with the late Sam Ard, who also racked up five wins.

Initially, Noah Gragson led the race, until he decided to practice his rallying skills and dropped down the order. Luckily, he managed to recover and battle his way up the field to finish third.

With this, Gragson preserved his pristine record of top-10 finishes on every Xfinity Series road-course event. Meanwhile, AJ Allmendinger and Andy Lally rounded out the Top 5, respectively. In addition to that, Jeremy Clement, Riley Herbst, Harrison Burton, Justin Allgaier, and Myatt Snider completed the top 10.

What did Austin Cindric say about the race?

Everybody was on the back foot because of the lack of practice or qualifying sessions, so they were going in blind. This was especially crucial because nobody had ever driven on the 3.61-mile, 14-turn road course.

“I’m not sure anyone was really all that happy with their race cars you know, unfortunately I have the perspective of driving really fast race cars at this track,” Cindric told the official NASCAR website.

Cindric led less than half of the 52 laps, including the opening 16 laps to win Stage 1. Later on in Stage 3, he snatched the lead with five laps to go and bagged his seventh career Xfinity Series victory.

Admittedly, Austin Cindric got involved in a massive dogfight with his rival, Chase Briscoe, in the second stage. There were occasions where things got heated but never reached its conclusion.

This was because became an unfortunate victim of a multi-car restart mess with eight laps remaining. As a result, his #98 car sustained too much damage, and he ended up down in 29th.

With seven races left, Cindric, Briscoe, Gragson, Jones, Burton, and Haley are all vying for the Xfinity title. In addition to that, they are also trying to battle it out for a playoff berth.
