Going to Homestead-Miami might bring out some old memories for Bubba Wallace. Sadly, they will not be happy ones. After an altercation with Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson, Wallace had been suspended for the 2022 Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami. Missing the crucial race, the No. 23 driver had watched from afar as Joey Logano took a much-needed win. On the fateful day, he also witnessed his best friend Ryan Blaney finish at P17 after a misfortune of his own.
As we approach the same intermediate track a year later, Wallace and Blaney would have both hoped to put the unfortunate memory aside. And it seems neither would allow that scenario to happen again, as they got engrossed in online banter on “X”.

After the latest race at Las Vegas, in which Blaney had finished P6, NASCAR had announced that his car would be disqualified on the account of its left-front shock not being the specified length mentioned in the rule book. However, after a more detailed analysis, the penalty was rescinded and Blaney’s result was restored. This sequence of events is what set the stage for the quips between the friends, on “X”.
After NASCAR’s initial call dawned, Wallace wrote, perhaps a bit too quickly, “P Illegal Shock yesterday”, and set off the trigger.
Responding to Wallace with a crack of his own, Blaney brought forward Wallace’s own penalty that came last year at Las Vegas.
Getting back his mate, the Penske star asked, “Just remembered you were on vacation last year during Miami, are you excited to go back?” Wallace retorted with a harsher comeback. Putting up a video of Blaney’s unprecedented spin at the race that he missed last year, he wrote, “Ah yes. Learned a lot of what NOT to do that weekend. Prepped and ready to go.”
As the battle between the best friends rages on, Blaney has been the latest to take a shot.
Ah yes. Good view from the couch I’m sure. You learned of what NOT to do 2 weekends in a row. Look at you learning 🤗 https://t.co/lKbnmW8BTm

For Team Penske’s No. 12 star, there is more to lose on the line than his friend. Currently, 15 points below the cutline to make it to the Championship 4, he is in more or less a similar situation to where he was in 2022. Last year, he was looking at a potential top-10 finish at Miami when he made a grave error getting out of the pit road in lap 211. Cursing himself for the spin, he said at the time, “Downshifted like a dumb ******”. His P17 finish had made the final round 3 race at Martinsville a must-win for him. Finding himself facing the same track in 2023, he will hope to not repeat a similar mistake.
His friend Wallace, on the other hand, is already done with his championship run. After a career-best finish in the Round of 12, he faced elimination at the Roval. But that doesn’t mean that Michael Jordan’s driver will not be vying for the win. After all, he must be eager to race at the Homestead-Miami, after having missed out last year. Even if not win, Wallace will hope to avoid a situation similar to what happened with Larson in Vegas last year. Chances for that are likely if the words from the driver are to be believed. He’d commented on his own maturity after the Roval race and said, “Ten years ago, I’d be ready to punch something. I guess that’s maturing and growing up … and accepting fate”.

Wallace had earlier revealed to the media that he was planning to take a trip to Australia in the offseason, along with Blaney and their partners. After the 23XI Racing star’s best result in the Cup Series, they will be hoping that Blaney sets himself a record too. Should that happen, they would be a cheerful duo going to the Land Down Under!
