With the All-Star weekend getting nearer and NASCAR finally coming back to North Wilkesboro Speedway in some fashion, there are a lot of people who have to be thanked behind this incredible feat. Among those, there’s the Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt Jr. His contribution was quite vast, but it could prove to be the make or break because of one particular demand.

The asphalt of the racetrack.

It has come to light that instead of repaving the track, the asphalt was kept to what it was years ago. Kenny Wallace recently thanked Junior for this as he pointed towards the big gains NASCAR could make from the All-Star Race.

NASCAR veteran on why All-Star Race having 30,000 seating is a good thing

In a recent video posted on his Instagram, Wallace argued why the All-Star Race at NWS has “the ingredients” which could potentially “bring back NASCAR bigger and better.”

“There’s a lot less seats at North Wilkesboro. We talked about how NASCAR used to have 200,000–250,000 seats. That’s a lot of people to keep up 39 weeks out of 52 weeks,” Wallace explained. “So you got 52 weeks in a year, you got 39 races, so you mean to tell me, 39 weeks in a year you’re gonna have 200–250,000 people at a racetrack?

“In NFL, the biggest one ever has 90,000.”

Wallace continued by predicting that the turnout at NWS could be between 23,000 and 30,000 people. And even though it looks like a small number for a million-dollar race, it will give NASCAR the opportunity to announce the two magical words—”SOLD OUT.”

Furthering his point about the All-Star Race being an opportunity for NASCAR to make “a big comeback,” Kenny Wallace explained why it could end up being “a good look” for the sport as he credited the CEO of Speedway Motorsports Marcus Smith and Dale Jr.

“A lot of credit for Marcus Smith for playing Dale Earnhardt Jr into this. Junior said, ‘No don’t you dare repave this. Leave it alone,'” he said.

Wallace also added that the All-Star Race could become a “template” for racetracks moving forward as they’ll also learn the lesson of selling out the event.
