Ever since Shane van Gisbergen made his leap to American soil to compete in NASCAR, all eyes have been on him. From his performances to his car’s paint schemes, fans have been craving for every little detail that could get their hands on. And this time, what’s captured admirer’s attention is a premature leak that revealed the car SVG would be driving during the Circuit of the Americas next weekend. The image that surfaced online showed that the Kiwi’s car is being prepped by Trackhouse Racing. And it’s safe to say that fans are quite happy about it.

Shane van Gisbergen set for massive Cup Series road course test

It comes off as unusual but is not a surprise that Trackhouse Racing is the one prepping the #16 car for the Cup Series race at COTA, despite it running under the Kaulig Racing name. After all, the teams have an alliance when it comes to the Kiwi racer. Maybe that would explain why the Kaulig Racing #16 car was snapped in the Trackhouse Racing shop.

The image that was shared on Reddit by a user on Monday sent fans into a frenzy. The reason why it was deciphered as a Trackhouse shop was Ross Chastain‘s #1 painted on the wall, and his car visible beside the #16. It partially showed what some fans are calling the WWEX Group paint scheme for the Watermelon Man.

While something like this is unheard of in the Cup Series, race fans are not upset about it. Trackhouse Racing has a better record than Kaulig Racing in the competition and considering that Shane van Gisbergen is a master of road courses, fans want to see him fight near the front of the pack against some of the best drivers NASCAR has to offer today.

The comments section under the Reddit post completely blew up when the image was shared with some fans heaving a sigh of relief that the 3-time Supercars champion will drive for a more competitive team at COTA. “Ok Trackhouse is prepping the 16, thank god,” one user commented. “It’s Trackhouse-prepped? Even better,” quipped another.

However, despite being in a better car, some users have their doubts about Shane van Gisbergen, as if his debut was not good enough to convince people of his road course skills. One fan believes that the Kiwi is faster when driving inside track limits. “I’m glad he’s in a decent car in Cup, but I’m not expecting much from him as there are no track limits apparently, whereas SVG experience is in being fast while staying track limits. Apparently, he’s been struggling in the sim to drive off track,” they commented.

Another fan claimed that Trackhouse Racing was using the same setup they used for SVG’s debut-winning Cup car, just under the hood of the Kaulig Racing #16. “I think trackhouse is using the project 91 stuff but under the 16 so he will always be locked in if more than 40 cars show up. But that is pretty unlikely in the cup series,” they wrote.

While most fans were happy that the Kiwi would race in a more competitive car than what was believed, some also opined that Trackhouse Racing shouldn’t have been the one to prepare the car. “Bizarre that trackhouse is preparing the car. They don’t do that for his Xfinity ride, I thought the whole point of the kaulig deal was to give them an extra year to set up the third team and not detract resources from the 1/99 camps,” one fan quipped.

If it’s true that Shane van Gisbergen will be getting a Trackhouse Racing-prepped car for the upcoming COTA race, then the #16 car might very well be at the front all through the event. A road course is the Supercars champion’s bread and butter and he will be looking forward to fighting for the win next weekend.
