MBM Motorsports is not a full-time Cup Series outfit, but the team always used to take part in some races over the course of a season. However, it has been a while since racing fans have seen one of its cars in a Cup race. Over a year to be precise. There can be several reasons for the hiatus, but knowing the nature of motorsports, the absence was probably related to financial and sponsorship issues. Regardless, that wait is hopefully going to be over as the team has announced that it will race in Austin with a rookie behind the wheel.
The man in question is Matt Jaskol. He might be making his debut in the Cup Series but will be one of the most experienced drivers on the track for sure. Jaskol has competed in multiple races in the Truck and Xfinity Series with best respective finishes of P19 and P18 in the competitions. However, his Cup Series dream might be far from being realized as the driver recently made a desperate appeal for sponsorship on X.

As things stand, Jaskol is yet to bring in a primary sponsor for the event. And if that doesn’t happen, the MBM Motorsports hiatus will last much longer. However, in a bid to avoid that exact situation, taking to his official X handle, the 39-year-old driver asked for help from his followers.
“Hey everyone! I have an exciting opportunity to make my NASCAR Cup debut with @MBMMotorsports @COTA race in Austin next weekend! Seeking a primary partner(s) to join me on this adventure. Message me if you or anyone businesses you know would be interested,” Jaskol tweeted.

If things work out, it would only be the third Cup race the team will have taken part in ever since the Next-Gen car came into existence. The last time they took part in the competition was the spring race at Talladega in 2022. Jaskol will be driving the #66 car which has seen several races in the Cup Series since 2017. Timmy Hill has been the best driver for the team in the competition as he earned the two best results they have achieved in the series so far, P14 at Indianapolis (2017) and P15 in Talladega (2020).
While the team’s Cup Series future still hangs in the balance, it also had to face another situation recently in NASCAR’s second division. The Carl Long owned team got into some trouble with NASCAR in the opening race of the 2024 Xfinity Series season, which saw them getting disqualified from the race at the Daytona International Speedway.

The team acknowledged their mistake and decided not to appeal against the disqualification. The issue that NASCAR flagged was the length of the split allowed for the track bar. The maximum is 3 inches, and the team exceeded that limit for the qualifying session before the race. David Starr was the driver at the time and he qualified P29. After they were booted from the race, the team announced a makeup race at the Talladega Superspeedway.

“For those who have not seen the news, NASCAR has disqualified our P29 Xfinity Series qualifying lap at Daytona due to our track bar height. We passed pre-qualifying tech this morning with the track bar level as required by the rulebook. Somehow in the normal qualifying adjustments, we exceeded the maximum three inches of split allowed for the track bar. This was an honest mistake. We are not making excuses, but to paint the picture for you all, our entire crew was working today on one hour of sleep after our last lap crash while running in the Top 5 of the ARCA race last night,” a long tweet about the matter read.

The team will surely to looking to never repeat the same kind of mistake again. As for its Cup Series run, it will be interesting to see how MBM Motorsports performs in the road course race with a driver who has had experience in both stock car and open-wheel racing.
