NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team On Point Motorsports recently shared some heartbreaking news. The team that fields the No.30 Toyota Tundra in the third tier of NASCAR revealed their owner, James Whitener, has passed away.
Whitener had stepped away from the sport in 2018 due to being diagnosed with liver failure. Although the cause of his death hasn’t been revealed yet.
His team, On Point Motorsports, tweeted out the news of his passing. “We are deeply saddened to learn, former Nascar team owner, James Whitener has passed away. On behalf of everyone at On Point Motorsports, we send our deepest sympathies to James’ family & friends. Please know that we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers,” the team account wrote.

NASCAR Truck Series has a new face for COTA
It was recently announced that one of the Cup Series’ most talented and well-known faces will take part in the Truck Series race prior to the race on Sunday.

That driver is Alex Bowman of Hendrick Motorsports and the reason, albeit a speculative one, is perhaps getting some good preparation in place ahead of the first road course race of the season.

However, Bowman isn’t the only Cup driver who is stepping in a different series for some prep.
Bubba Wallace is also set to drive in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday for Joe Gibbs Racing. Wallace not only shares a connection with JGR through his 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin, but JGR was the team that gave him his first career start.
