For the first time this season, the NASCAR series had a qualifying session. Up until then, the spot has been relying on a special formula to decide the grid slots. However on this occasion, the drivers took part in heat races to decide the grid. However, everything got interrupted when the rain fell and forced its cancellation.
Nevertheless, they still managed to set up a grid for the race. So, John Hunter Nemechek heads the pack, with Austin Hill alongside him on the front row. Sheldon Creed and Matt Crafton share the second row on the grid, ahead of Johnny Sauter and Zane Smith.
