The Snowball Derby is an annual super late model stock race that has attracted some of the biggest names in NASCAR in the past. Since it is held towards the end of the year, drivers are usually done with their racing schedules by then. Notably, in 2009, the Richard Childress Racing star Kyle Busch won the race amidst a star-studded field of Chase Elliott, Steve Wallace, and Bobby Gill.
Noticing the response that the Derby got from drivers, the promotion moved its annual award ceremony banquet to enable drivers to participate in it. As a result, we will be seeing more stars including William Byron, grace the celebrated event this year.

The Snowball Derby is annually held at the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. In existence since 1968, it is usually held around the first week of December and this year won’t be any different. Presented by the Bayou Fox Hooters and Safe Locater, it will be raced between November 30 and December 3. While many drivers from a string of racing series across the country are scheduled to participate in it, Hendrick Motorsports star William Byron will be heading NASCAR’s lineup.
The 56th version of the event will however not be Byron’s first appearance in it. Participating back in 2015, he won 8th place. Among those from the tracks of NASCAR who are among the 53 entries thus far are Erik Jones, the young Carson Hocevar, Ryan Preece, and Noah Gragson. Erik Jones has won this race on two occasions before, in 2012 and 2013.
With the event winner getting $30,000 in addition to a $5000 championship ring, they will only be the least of rewards to join an elite list of this major stock race. A special entry from beyond the Cup Series will be the NASCAR Canada champion, Treyten Lapcevich. The two-time K&N Pro Series West champion Derek Thorn will also be joining the list of disciplines from outside NASCAR to test the caliber of the top tier.
