After yet another NASCAR Cup Series race full of wrecks in Fontana, there were many who began questioning and scrutinizing the Next Gen car. Recently, one big name from NASCAR joined that side of the fence but then quickly erased his steps. That name was Denny Hamlin.
The star driver-owner had recently posted a tweet that suggested how the weekend in Southern California was like “a black eye” for the sport. However, he then went on to delete that tweet, something very uncharacteristic of Hamlin.
But by the time he deleted it, enough people saw it and this was recently discussed in an episode of Door Bumper Clear podcast with spotters Freddie Kraft and TJ Majors.

And it was the latter who didn’t necessarily seem to agree with the No.11 driver.
“I don’t understand what the black eye is other than the fact that the end of the Xfinity race was a disaster. I mean, we knew going in, if this car stalled, it was gonna be stuck,” TJ Majors said.
“I don’t think any of us were surprised by that.”
TJ added, “Denny Hamlin is a car owner. Should he be surprised by that? Denny Hamlin is a driver. Should he be surprised by that?”
A black eye or good for the sport?
Door Bumper Clear debates whether Denny Hamlin was right in saying that Saturday at @AutoClubSpdwy wasn’t part of the highlight reel.

“I mean, the test you guys did last year, I was getting texts. And boy, these things, once you wreck ’em, you can’t move ’em,” he continued. “This shouldn’t be a surprise. This shouldn’t be a black eye for the sport.”
“What’s not to love?” – Denny Hamlin on Formula 1’s profits
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver had recently reacted to a tweet that reported the profits Formula 1 earned in 2021 after a disastrous season in 2020 in terms of revenue.

Hamlin replied, “Seems favorable for all parties. 2B in revenues for the league. 1B of that going to the teams. What’s not to love about a rising tide.”
As NASCAR heads to Las Vegas, all eyes will undoubtedly be on the Next Gen car and the tally of wrecks it collects. However, one shouldn’t forget that this is a radically different car.

And radically different things take time to get used to.
