Recently, NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin appeared on the Door Bumper Clear podcast. Over there, he spoke about last weekend’s Cup Series race at the Richmond Raceway that Denny Hamlin won. According to him, a large part of the race was practically a snooze-fest. As it got to the latter stages, the excitement later picked up and then it became a frantic finish.
He said, “I feel like it was like watching a college football game. The teams are tied, and it goes into overtime and team wins 3 to nothing. It was an epic finish, you’re on the edge of your seat for the finish, but man! Leading up to the finish was kind of boring.”
The race itself was largely won with the help of a great strategy from the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing team. Even Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick had a clever strategy under his belt. However, it was not enough to stop Hamlin winning and scoring Toyota and JGR’s first win of the season.

Was the NASCAR race really that boring?
Admittedly, the jury is still out on this one, but Kyle Petty did not like how things turned out. According to him, there were six races where there was plenty of racing action and he loved it. Then came Richmond and the formula completely turned on its head. He confessed that the strategy could sometimes be confusing for the casual viewers.
Apparently, he saw some fan comments and they said that they saw Hamlin win. However, they did not have much of a clue how he managed to worm his way into a race-winning position. In other words, only people who would have in-depth knowledge of the series would be able to have some semblance of an idea. Hopefully, this weekend’s race at the Martinsville Speedway will not yield a ‘boring’ race. The same can also be said for the upcoming race at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track.
