Thinking of the impossible and making those dreams come to fruition is a task that Trackhouse Racing and its owner, Justin Marks, are very familiar with. When purchasing a team charter had almost become impossible, the young entrepreneur purchased the entirety of Chip Ganassi Racing to kick-start his own Cup Series team. After garnering enormous success in the past few years, becoming a force to be reckoned with in the highest echelon of the Cup Series, there seem to be muffled whispers that the team is on the verge of buying a third charter from another Cup Series team for the next season. But who could they be buying it from?
Who is the ideal candidate for Trackhouse Racing’s charter deal?
Unpredictability has always been a part and parcel of the NASCAR world. Whether it was Kyle Busch leaving Joe Gibbs Racing after a 15-year-partnership or 3x Supercars champion Shane Van Gisbergen joining NASCAR, nothing in the stock car racing world comes with the title of impossible. Adding its name to that book, in the past couple of years, Justin Marks’ Trackhouse Racing has also tasted a significant amount of success, including a Championship 4 appearance.

And now Justin Marks might be adding a new page to that book with whispers of him securing a charter seems to be on the rise. This speculation first gained traction from an X post by NASCAR Insider, Couch Racer. The brand which is owned by spotters Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft posted a veiled post stating, “At least two tier-one teams are looking to expand next season. Charters.”

Charters 💰

This being said, the probable question that stems out here is which team is willing to sell its team charter to Trackhouse Racing. Well, not many names crop up at this juncture, and only a handful of teams remain who are willing to capitalize on this risk. The most probable team among them is Kaulig Racing.
This statement might come as off as bold and over-arching, but surely not improbable for one simple reason: The team seems more focused on the Xfinity Series as of now. Although Kaulig’s veteran driver AJ Allmendinger netted a victory in the Charlotte Roval last season, it did not secure his Cup Series future. Instead, the driver returned to the Xfinity Series for a full-time role, leaving the #16 car without a full-time driver.
Also, currently, the Cup Series car is driven by the team’s Xfinity Series drivers AJ Allmendinger and Josh Williams and special recruits on a rotational basis. Owing to this, the Matt Kaulig-owned team selling its charter seems to hold the highest possibility. The Kaulig Racing and Trackhouse Racing pairing also seems to be most likely, given their ongoing alliance. Even fans and other industry insiders were of the same opinion as they tried to unearth the story behind the speculative tweet.

Soon after the tweet caught the attention of fans, they donned the hats of Sherlock Holmes trying to deduce the mystery. One fan reiterated how the Trackhouse and Kaulig Racing trade-off is most likely to happen. “I mean Trackhouse has 4 drivers and 1 drivers under a development deal very possible they’re one,” they wrote.
Another user posted a summary of the changes that could be seen in 2025, writing, “I’ve said it earlier this AM – @SpireMotorsport, @TeamTrackhouse or is going to own @KauligRacing next season. Kaulig becomes the @NASCAR_Xfinity series team for whoever buys them. @StewartHaasRcng could be gone or downsized easily. @RCRracing is not expanding…..”

It is not just Trackhouse Racing that the NASCAR community consider as a contender for buying a charter, but also 23XI Racing, given its recent investment in Airspeed and also bringing team owner Denny Hamlin under one roof. One fan speculated, “23XI and Trackhouse…getting two charters from SHR? ”, while another wrote, “Trackhouse and 23XI are my guesses.”
