Is the next Kyle Larson about to steal Corey LaJoie's last shot at NASCAR glory?

The similarities between Kyle Larson’s and Corey Day’s racing journeys are uncanny. And that’s not just for the spectators but for Kyle Larson himself. The relationship that Day has brewed with Larson is crucial for his racing career progression, as there isn’t much other backing that could sail him through.

Betting on the odds, Corey Day has a truly raw racing talent with impressive adaptiveness. He is hardworking and is certainly on the right path to sway Corey LaJoie off his as Day is rumored to get some end-season NASCAR Truck Series starts in #7.

Corey Day drove the #28 Pinnacle Motorsport group car at Salem Speedway in his ARCA Menard Series debut. As someone who saw the course Salem track for the first time and had no prior experience of driving a full-body stock car, Corey Day performed pretty well, up until his crash with Toni Breidinger.

Day’s learning curve and precision were on a steep upward trajectory. He is due for two more ARCA starts this season, one each at Kansas and Bristol. The Clovis driver’s transition from dirt racing to asphalt seems obvious given his quality driving and Hendrick Motorsport‘s guidance with the help of Kyle Larson’s support.

Currently driving the #14 car on the High Limit Sprint Car Tour, Corey Day has five High Limit wins and one World of Outlaws win. He drove for JR Motorsports in the late model stock car at Hickory, finishing 7th in his 1st feature and leading all 40 laps of the 2nd feature.

So, taking notes from his streaks, Day is more than capable of outperforming Corey LaJoie for the bid to drive Spire Motorsport’s #7 truck. And fans have also riled up hopes for the budding driver, as they enthusiastically commented on the LaJoie replacement news on Reddit. LaJoie has already been denounced by Spire from the NASCAR Cup Series for the 2025 season. And now, his prospects of staying in the truck also seem to be going up in the air.

What are NASCAR fans talking about Corey Day’s speculated Craftsman debut?

Given Day’s Hendrick Motorsports affiliation, one Reddit user exclaimed, “Not surprising at all. Larson is going to make this kid his Jimmie Johnson.” The #48 driver was famed for his run back in the days when Jeff Gordon vouched to Rick Hendrick for him.

Other users went on saying, “Think the 7 was full already. But Day will be in a different truck.” LaJoie, Kyle Busch, and Connor Zilisch have driven races in the #7 driver in 2024. So, there is disbelief and commotion on this end at the moment. The guess is that Day will take LaJoie’s place going forward to match Zilisch’s energy.

Some other users were stuck up on Zilisch’s bid to the #7 truck as they wrote, “Phoenix is unannounced, but the broadcast last week mentioned Zilisch was looking for funding to run that. Even if it’s not Zilisch, I don’t see NASCAR approving Day to make his debut there.”

Eyes out on the final lineup announcements to clear the air. But the crowd is certainly cheering for Corey Day’s entry.
